Ke Huy Quan on whyLove Hurtsshould’ve been offered to Jason Statham
In a behind-the-scenesfeaturette, Ke Huy Quan sat down to share his insights and thoughts aboutLove Hurts. He stated how everything he’s done so far has prepared him for this moment in his life, where he’ll have the opportunity to play Marvin Gable, a real estate agent with a violent past.
Everything that I have done in the last 20 years, was a preparation for this movie. Love Hurts is about Marvin Gable who is seemingly a very simple guy and very quickly we realize, he is anything but simple.

I remember reading the script for the very first time, I was very confused, about why they would offer me the role of Marvin Gable because I thought it was written for somebody else. In fact, I said, you should be calling Jason Statham.
Jason Statham being a known action hero, with a persona and body of work that aligns with an action hero seemed perfect to Quan forLove Hurts. He felt like the role wasn’t tailored for him, endearingly oblivious to his own gifts that he brings to the big screen.

Why Ke Huy Quan is perfect forLove Hurts
Ke Huy Quanis completely dedicated to his craft and is willing to immerse himself in roles that might seem beyond his comfort zone. Moreover, the script demanded someone like Quan to be on board, and he understood exactly why he was approached for the role.
I understand that what they were trying to achieve is to create a different kind of action star, someone who is not afraid to be vulnerable or wear his emotions on his sleeves. I went to film school and a Hong Kong action director named Con Yen taught me choreography for action and I was able to put that to use as an actor.

Going into this I wanted to be able to do all the fights myself, and I trained with our guys for a long time, trying to get myself in shape, in preparation for this, cause I knew that we were doing something special, and man it was hard it was tough.
What makes Quan being a lead in the film even more remarkable is the history he has as a former stunt performer and stunt actor. His journey from being a child artist to a major action-comedy star in Hollywood is so inspiring! Quan has truly proven that years of hard work can pay off, andLove Hurtsis the beginning of a new era for him.

Love Hurtswill hit the theatres on February 7th, 2025.
