Vincent D’Onofrio might be known to Marvel fans as the iconic Kingpin. However, the actor has plenty of landmark roles in his portfolio, and also spent time onLaw & Order: Criminal Intent,as Detective Robert Goren. While the actor’s time on the show ended back in 2005, he opened doors for a return.

D’Onofrio outlined the challenges that came with the often 18-hour long shifts he had to put in. However, he also enjoyed his time on the show, and claimed that a potential return depends on the creators of the show.

In late 2004,Vincent D’Onofrioexperienced a health issue when he collapsed on the set ofCriminal Intenton November 10. He collapsed again at home a few days later and was taken back to the hospital for more thorough testing, where he was diagnosed with exhaustion. Subsequently, the series’ producers introduced a second team of detectives in 2005.
Law & Order: Criminal Intentdistinguished itself from other shows in theLaw & Orderuniverse by focusing primarily on its lead characters, Detective Robert Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Detective Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe). Unlike its sister series, which featured ensemble casts,Criminal Intentplaced a heavy burden on its two leads, requiring them to shoulder the majority of the show’s narrative.

However, this does not mean he will say no to a return, as the actor went on to claim.

This relentless schedule caused D’Onofrio to collapse on set during Season 4, forcing producers to distribute the workload among other actors, includingLaw & Orderveteran Chris Noth.
Despite the challenges of his original run, D’Onofrio remains open to revisiting his iconic role. At Nashville’s ICCCon, the actor teased the possibility of aCriminal Intentrevival. When asked if he would return, D’Onofrio replied, (Digital Spy)

That’s a question for [producer] Dick Wolf. But c’mon, what am I, an idiot? It’s a great part. Look, Dick, seven, eight, nine episodes would be great. People are definitely into this. When we all finally sort all these important issues with the studios, maybe it’s time to think about this seriously. If the boss @WolfEnt is into it, of course. Could be fun.
Regardless, while nothing about such a return has been finalized, the actor certainly is on board.
