Yellowstonehas always been interspersed with moments of glory although the neo-Western series had seen better days. Taylor Sheridan’s Montana-based project has been spiraling downward since Season 3 and only recently are the fans beginning to get back on board with the show again. Season 5, in a sense, is bringing back a taste of what Sheridan lost in the post-Season 3 haze.

However,Yellowstone‘s impressive return to the grassroots is a lesson in what makes the audience tick. Expansive landscapes, dysfunctional dynasties, and political grappling are not enough to satiate the viewer’s tastes anymore. Rage-fuelled outbursts, bloodied violence, and adrenaline-inducing shock and gore have been in demand ever sinceGame of Thronesmade them fashionable.

WhenYellowstonebrought out all its major pieces on the chessboard, two of the most powerful ranks were held byKelly Reilly‘s Beth Dutton andCole Hauser‘s Rip Wheeler. The two actors delivered just about the most impactful storylines ever seen on television on account of their character arcs and their on-screen personalities.
As such, it was a horrifying moment to witness when Beth Dutton, one of the most vicious, unforgiving, merciless, and apathetic anti-heroes got tortured and nearly r*ped and murdered by two of Malcolm Beck’s goons-for-hire. Rip tearing in through the office at the last minute and instantly dropping the man who was about to shoot Beth dead was one of the most chilling scenes on TV.
