XDefiantis receiving mixed impressions from players following the release of its open beta yesterday afternoon. Many have expressed their love for the game’s fluid movement and unique maps, but the beta is also being let down by server issues and unpredictable hit registration.
Ubisoftkicked off its first closed beta for XDefiant back in April, with only a handful of users being selected to participate. Now Ubisoft has opened up XDefiant to the masses, as the open beta is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC from Wednesday, June 21st to Friday, June 23rd.

The studio was sure to implement a long list of fixes and improvements for this week’s beta, with the main focus being on server stability, new netcode, and the general controller experience on consoles. However, despite the many improvements, players are still frustrated over the game’s poor hit registration system, which is causing plenty of unnecessary in-game deaths.
Multiple posts can be found on theXDefiant subreddit, with one user asking, “is the hit reg this bad for everyone else? or am I just doing something wrong?” Another userechoes the same sentiment, saying, “enemies kill me so fast but when I shoot them it takes over 1 second of continuous fire without missing to kill them?”
Another user even posted a pretty shocking clip of them clearly hitting a test dummy in the firing range, only for the shots to not register at all. In response, one user called it the biggest problem with the game, while also saying, “You can have all the great game designs, but you’re going to fail if hit reg feels like a mobile game.”
The frustration over XDefiant’s hit registration isn’t just confined to Reddit either, with many Twitter users also taking to the platform to give their feedback on the matter. “Played XDefiant for a few hours. Cool concept. Just… the whole game feels like it’s… lagging? Like reloading, hit reg, abilities, everything feels BEHIND,” oneuser tweeted, whilstanother simply said, “XDefiant has the worst hit reg right now. That’s the only issue I have.”
