The Disney Plus animated seriesX-Men ‘97has been receiving positive responses since its release. The revival of the classic showX-Men: The Animated Serieswas in the headlines earlier this month for parting ways with showrunner Beau DeMayo. The show’s premiere on March 20 reportedly garnered over 4 million views, making it the second most-viewed animated series on the platform.

The third episode of the series is reportedly adapted from the comicInfernoand follows Jean Grey’s clone. Introduced at the end of episode two, the clone is transformed into the Goblin Queen by Mister Sinister and then assumes the identity of Madelyn Pryor. The episode also sees Nathan Summers, the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey make an appearance.

However, in the comics, Nathan is the son of Scott Summers and Madelyn Pryor, the clone of Jean Grey.

The end of episode two shows the arrival of a Jean look-alike. The recently aired episode 3, titled ‘Fire Made Flesh’, reveals that the look-alike is the real Jean Grey and that the mother of Nathan Summers is a clone. The clone Jean then has an identity crisis and transforms herself into the Goblin Queen after being manipulated by Mister Sinister.

She takes off with Nathan Summers, with the child being infected with a virus by Mister Sinister. The original Jean communicates with the Goblin Queen telepathically to snap her out of Mister Sinister’s control. Nathan is saved but the virus is still in his body, leading the X-Men to send him to the future for a cure. The Goblin Queen takes the name of Madelyn Prior at the end.

When Jean Grey was revealed to be pregnant with the child of Scott Summers a.k.a Cyclops, fans speculated that it would be either Rachel Summers or Nathan Summers. It was revealed that the child was the latter, confirming the existence of Cable. In th comics, Nathan Summers becomes Cable in the future.

The son of Madelyn Pryor a.k.a clone Jean and Cyclops, Cable’s powers are initiated by Mister Sinister as he instilled a virus in him to battle Apocalypse. According to the character’swiki, Nathan Summers becomes a trained warrior in the future, assuming the role of Askani’son. In Ryan Reynolds’Deadpool 2, he was depicted by Josh Brolin.

The end of episode 3 also sees the clone Jean becoming Madelyn Pryor, setting up a deeper exploration of her and Cyclops’ relationship.
