As is the case withvarious Soulslikesin the industry,Wuchang: Fallen Featherscan be daunting in the beginning, with a ton of different items and mechanics being introduced, and one of them is your main weapon upgrade material—the Red Feathers.

And, like any other well-known weapon upgrade resource in these kinds of games, there are a few different types of these feathers that you’re able to unearth, all of which boost your weapon to a certain level to an extent.

Standard, Deluxe Edition contents and pre-order bonuses revealed too.

To help you understand how you can get your hands on these resources yourself and when their later variants become available, I’ve put together this guide on the Red Feathers in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, so let’s quickly discuss all the details on them.

How To Find Each Type of Red Feather

To put it bluntly, the Red Feathers in this game are scaled by the area;even if you’re level 90 and in the Point of No Return section, you’re able to head back to one of the starting areas and still find yourself getting the Faint Red Feathers.

So, in all honesty, it’s relatively the same case as the Soulsborne weapon upgrading materials and their drops. With that said, before I explain how to use each one, let’s briefly discuss each of them and when you can find them in-game.

Faint Red Feathers

The first type of Red Feathers that you’ll come across is the Faint ones, depicted by their thinned-out and ordinary state. You’ll find a bunch of these in the starting area, especially from the early vase monsters around Shu Sanctum, as I’ve shown above.

Furthermore, this will also be the case for the other feathers and their drops below; these feathers are also dropped by defeating specific powerful enemies throughout the levels, often distinguished by an ominous aura and glowing red eyes.

Lastly, this information goes mainly to these in particular, but you can also purchase Red Faint Feathers from Wu Gang, a mischievous merchant whom you talk to and befriend before you go and fight against the Master Raider in the Lightzen Temple.

Brilliant Red Feathers

Regarding the Brilliant Red Feathers, this is where RNG and targeted drops can come into the fray. I found Brilliant Red Feathers on a few specific occasions, such as after beating the Tang Emperor Maid boss fight or defeating one of the winged creatures in Avian Marsh, near the large rebel outpost.

While their drop rate is in between the early-to-mid-game areas, such as Mt Zhenwu, the most probable way to get them is via defeating the powerful enemies in those same areas, because you’ll feel a mix of getting these and the Red Faint ones past Worship’s Rise.

Ah grinding…the escapist passion of a soulslike player.

You won’t typically find them for pickups either, unless you happen to be in an obscure part of the environment, such as a particular section with broken beams in the massive Zhenwu Temple, as shown in the image above.

Radiant Red Feathers

The Radiant Red Feathers are going to be your min-max upgrade materials that you’ll mainly receive throughout the entirety of the mid-to-late game events of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, which will help you push your desired weapon to achieve a +9 level status.

You’ll likely come across quite a few of thesewhilst navigating the ruinous version of Worship’s Rise,as well as during the perilous landscapes of the underground Bo Capital. A variety of powerful enemies can drop them by that point and are also found in a few locations within the environment.

I’ll even go as far as to say that you’ll have enough of these to even upgrade a secondary weapon of your choosing for the first playthrough, since we’ll get the last feather at least two times anyway.

Lustrous Red Feather

Lastly, it brings me to the final type of Red Feather and one that cements your weapon’s level to +10.As observed from two different playthroughs, the Lustrous Red Feather has two different drop locations, which is valid considering it’s the final resource you need to edge you past the +9 rating.

The first way to get the Lustrous Red Feather is via our adorable Panda NPC once you encounter him in Bo Capital.Among his usual inventory, he’ll have the Lustrous Red Feather worth five bamboo shoots, so if you’ve been saving them like me this whole time, this is the ideal time to spend them finally.

The other way is pretty simple; spoiler alert, but in Bo Capital, towards the end, you’ll reach a point where you need to combine the Solbird Shards to progress into the final stage of the game.In that same area where you need to collect the shards, there’s a middle spire overlooking the entire area.

Right before continuing to combine the two shards at the designated place with the statue lights converging, it’s strongly (and obviously) advised that you grab the Lustrous Red Feather from this spire here, as I’ve shown above, since it’s just waiting there to be picked up.

How To Use Red Feathers & Upgrade Weapons

It might seem a little tricky to understand at first glancefrom the skill tree, but bear with me here; it’s actually quite simple. To reiterate what I just said previously, the weapon progression in retrospect tothe Soulsborne series.

In this instance, I’ll beusing the Longswordas an example. The first two Strong Blade upgrade nodes will have three different notches or tiers. Each completed notch here will grant you +1 to the weapon type, so a full node will grant you a +3 mastery.

The first three levels of a weapon will require a total of ten Fainted Red Feathers, and then, moving on, you’ll need ten of the Brilliant Red Feathers to achieve a +6 mastery level. The node with the Radiant Red Feathers is a bit towards the middle, so you might have to work on that one.

Be that as it may, the gist remains the same, since you’ll need ten Radiant Red Feathers to boost it towards +9.Once you reach the final node, you’ll only need a single Lustrous Red Feather to complete it and fully upgrade your weaponto the highest level, also earning you the Wielder of Power trophy/achievement.
