As per usual in a Soulslike,Wuchang: Fallen Feathersis full of NPCs with branching questlines. If you want to get the most out of the game, you will want to follow each of them. Following questlines doesn’t just have physical rewards. Instead, some of the NPCs will aid you in battle.

10 Best Survival Games With Soulslike Elements

Survival games can be tough, but these best survival games test even the most experienced survivalist with their Soulslike elements.

Some of the game’s most difficult boss fights can be handled with the help of NPCssuch as Nian Suichangor the Storyteller. Of course, you need to know how to summon each of these companions if you want their aid, and where you can summon them.

Best Survival Games with Soulslike Elements

Let’s break down which NPCs you’re able to summon and where you can summon them.

How to Summon NPCs in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Each of the summonable NPCs in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has their own prerequisites that you must first meet before you can summon them to help you during a boss battle. This includes following their questlines and answering questions correctly.

However, each NPC is summoned in the same way: by using the Bone Whistle. This item is given to you by Nian Suichang after youdefeat the Master Raider bossand meet up with him on the road to Shu Sanctum.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers Summon NPCs Nian Tree

Exhaust his dialogue, and Nian will give you the Bone Whistle. If you fail to get the Bone Whistle from Nian, or accidentally sell it, you’re able to purchase another one from Tao Qing at Shu Sanctum or the Refugee Camp for 500 Red Mercury.

If an NPC is available to be summoned during a boss battle, use the Bone Whistle, and they will come to your aid.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers Summon NPCs Nian Feathered Priest

The Bone Whistle can only be used in the boss arena. Keep this in mind when entering the boss arena, as you will need to contend with the boss while attempting to summon an NPC with the Bone Whistle.

Nian Suichang - Feathered Priest

Nian is the only NPC we have seen who can be summoned for multiple boss fights, with the first beingthe Feathered Priest. This is the boss in the room at the top of Shu Sanctum.

To summon Nian for this boss fight, you must exhaust his dialogue during your first meeting. Afterward, speak with him next to the Shrine in Shu Sanctum. Once this has been done, he will come to your aid during the boss fight once the whistle is blown.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers Summon NPCs Nian North General Fight

Nian Suichang - General of the North

The second fight that Nian will join you in is theGeneral of the Northin the Rebel Camp in Cloudspire. Before you can summon him for this fight, you will need to progress his quest to Hillswatch, return his pack, and respond with silence.

If you expose Nian when returning his pack, his questline will be broken, and you will not be able to summon him during this boss fight or any of the boss fights going forward.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers Summon NPCs Nian Fierce Tiger

Nian Suichang - Fierce Tiger

The final boss fight that you can summon Nian Suichang for is the Fierce Tiger. This is the boss found at the end of the Zhenwu Temple area.

10 Best Soulslikes With Rewarding Side Quests

A big part of a Soulslike is completing NPC quests, but these games have the most rewarding side quests to help you out.

To summon Nian here, you must follow his questline up to this point. Don’t worry, there are no more questions that you must answer correctly to get the summon.

Nian can be summoned at the start of the battle before the phase transition, but I recommend waiting until the boss enters its second phase to summon him, as he will most likely die by the end of the first phase.

Huang Jian’e - Fierce Tiger

If you decide that you don’t want to follow Nian’s questline, you may always follow Huang Jian’e’s. This quest will take you all across Cloudspire and up to the city before taking you to Zhenwu Temple.

If you follow her quest to Zhenwu, you will find Huang Jian’e meditating in one of the stairwells. She will let you know that she is preparing for the next fight. At that moment, you will know that she can be summoned.

I prefer to have Huang in the fight against Fierce Tiger, as she seems to be more competent than Nian. Plus, you get her armor set after you defeat the boss.

White-Robed Elder - Bo Sorcerer

The White-Robed Elder appears in a few locations before theBo Sorcerer boss fight. It is essential to engage with him during each interaction. He appears at Shu Sanctum, Cloudspire Outskirts, the Refugee Camp, and Avian Marsh.

When he asks if you are willing to help him take down the monster, you must agree to his request, or he will not be able to be summoned for the Bo Sorcerer boss fight. When you enter the arena, I recommend hugging the large tree to use the Bone Whistle safely, as the tree has a tendency to break the boss’s tracking.

He Youzai - Monstrous Toddler

TheMonstrous Toddler bossis the one that you encounter at the Bai Mansion after leaving for the location via the docks. To help with this fight, you can summon your faithful ally, He Youzai.

He Youzai appears throughout the game, but it doesn’t appear as if you need to follow a strict path to summon him at this location. I have taken multiple paths through the game, and as long as I have spoken with He Youzai in each location leading up to this fight, he will appear at Bai Mansion and agree to be summoned.

Xuanyangzi - The Reborn/Dragon Emperor

Near the end of the game, you can summon Xuanyangzi for the fight againstThe Reborn. The prerequisite for this is that you follow his questline and give him the Jade Ancient Chisel.

10 Hardest Games That Aren’t Soulslike

There are other ways to suffer the frustration of dying 1000 times in the same spot.

If you decide not to give him the chisel, he will be unavailable during the fight. One of the best parts about this fight is that Xuanyangzi can be summoned very quickly. This is because the boss has a large wind-up at the beginning that allows you to use the Bone Whistle without fear of interference.

Giving Xuanyangzi the Jade Ancient Chisel to summon him for this fight will also lock you into a certain ending, so ensure you’re okay with this. Otherwise, you’ll need to fight The Reborn alone.

The Storyteller/Duryal - Feathery Ambition

The last NPC summon in the game is for the final boss,Feathery Ambition.Of course, you need to complete quite a few steps before you may summon the Storyteller for this fight.

First, you will need to follow his questline up to the point where Worship’s Rise falls to ruin. Speak to him in Annalum and agree to his request to kill the Bo Magus.

You do not need to follow through with killing the Bo Magus. You are only required to agree with the request. After this is done, the Bo Magus can be left alone if you so choose.

You will then meet the Storyteller in the Bo Capital. After speaking to him there, you will learn that his name is Duryal, and he will become a summonable ally during the Feathery Ambition boss fight.

Feathery Ambition’s phase transition will almost always knock out Duryal. Wait to summon him until after the large waves of water that signal Feathery Ambition’s phase change.
