And it was during the latter that he remained firm about his storytelling approach, even when the disgraced industry mogul Harvey Weinstein warned him about a particular scene.

Tarantino reflected on the challenging relationship with Weinstein’s Miramax after the studio took on distribution for his directorial debut, the 1992 crime thriller. Weinstein had requested the removal of one particular scene, a demand that Tarantino firmly rejected.

One of the most brutal and famous scenes of the movie includes Michael Madsen’s Mr. Blonde torturing a police officer. In an appearance on theJoe Rogan Experience, the filmmaker revealed that after Miramax acquired the movie’s distribution rights,Harvey Weinsteinasked him to remove this particular scene.

“Harvey Weinstein tried to talk me into cutting the torture scene out,”he recalled. The filmmaker further explained his reason for wanting the scene to be removed, stating,

His reasoning was, ‘Look, Quentin, this is a movie that anybody can watch. But with that torture scene, you’re gonna alienate women; they’re not gonna wanna see this.

Weinstein argued that“without that scene, anybody can go and see this movie and everybody will enjoy it.”However, Tarantino remained unfazed by his demands and decided to keep the scene in the movie.

Beforehis eventual fallout, Harvey Weinstein was infamous for forcing edits on his directors into several movies. During his conversation withJoe Rogan, Quentin Tarantino shared that he was well aware of his reputation for such behavior.

“And that’s kind of actually where I became me because Harvey was used to winning these type of arguments,”he shared. And he acknowledged that Weinstein’s argument had merit, as he saw many people walking out duringseveral screenings of the movie.

However, the Oscar-winning filmmaker remained firm on keeping the scene in the movie.“I go well… it’s that movie it’s what the movie is and… you may be right but I don’t care this is the movie and it has that scene,”he recalled telling Weinstein.

Tarantino shared that although the film producer was used to getting his way, he refused to compromise. And Weinstein eventually backed down, allowing what would become one of the film’s most iconic sequences to remain intact.
