Marvel’s fan-favorite web-slinger is all set to dominate the screens with his animated aesthetics once again asYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manpops up with new updates every now and then about what this forthcoming show will behold. For one, it has recently released the first look at Colman Domingo’s Norman Osborn in the series as well.

But as much as this series is widely anticipated by fans worldwide, some fans are also finding some flaws with Domingo’s casting as Harry Osborn’s father in the soon-to-be-released animated show. However, these very fans need to know one crucial detail about theSpider-Mancomics that actually sets up Domingo as the perfect and most comic-accurate version of Osborn.
Colman Domingo’s Norman Osborn was supposed to be Black all along?
There have been a lot of comic book adaptations into animated and live-action projects on the fan-beloved Peter Parker, and pretty much all of them have brought about a different take on the heroes and villains. This upcoming seriesYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, for one, has portrayed Norman Osborn as Black, voiced by the Oscar nomineeColman Domingo.
As shared by@DiscussingFilm on X, Norman in this forthcoming animated show will be seen as a Black individual. This has brought about some fans raising disappointment over this casting, specifically asking the question of why Norman’s color is being swapped (see@bloodxrunts comment on X).

However, these very fans need to be aware of one major fact about the character’s depiction in the comics.
Far From Home Has Already Teased Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 Villain
Why is he black
In the comics, as fans must already know, Norman has waves in his hairstyle, which has perfectly materialized onscreen as well. For the record, usually, White people don’t really have waves, which is why this very feature sets up Norman as having been Black this entire time. As for his skin color in the comics? Well, he was probably just drawn light-skinned.

That said, it’s unarguable that this new version of Norman, with Domingo voicing him, sounds more accurate as opposed to the hate some fans have been spewing on him over his color. But whilesome of these fans are discontent with this turn of events, a majority of others are wholeheartedly opening their arms to see Domingo bring his creative flair to this character.
True Spider-Man fans are glad Norman Domingo is finally Black on screen too
As pointed out before, it is because of this very wavy hairstyle that Norman being painted Black in this upcoming series sounds just right for the character. Then there’s the critically commended Domingo’s inclusion in the saga as well, which might as well have been one of the best decisionstaken by the creative executives behind this project to date.
This being said, quite a few fans — besides the ones still hating on him being Black — are expressing their hype and anticipation over the release of this series and how greatly they are awaiting to witnessThe Madnessactor extending his outstandingly visionary flair to Peter Parker’s verse as well. All in all, taking to X, here’s what these fans have to say:

Bout time Norman was black. The motherfucker had waves since the 70s! 🤣
colman domingo is the perfect norman, i can’t wait for this

AT LAST MY MAN’S GOT HIS WAVES! LETS FUCKIN GOOOOOOOO!pic.twitter.com/zBdbrax2R6
I’m just gonna say it. I have NEVER seen a real live white person with waves. Norman Osborne should have been black around the same time as Nick Fury.
Chuds having breakdowns in the comments lmao holy shit it’s a cartoon and Norman literally had waves in the OG comics
We can agree this is perfect
lol they actually make sense now
Spider-Man Animated Show, Which Won’t Have Tom Holland, Seemingly Confirms Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man also Won’t Play Major Role
All of this being put out there, it’s inevitable that not only willthis forthcoming addition toSpider-Man‘s universebring about some really new and clever plotlines out and about on the screens, but it might as well also prove to be more factually accurate than depicted in even the source material.
Who knows? This just might turn out to be the best adaptation of Peter Parker’s character arcs to date, for all we know.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is set to premiere on Disney+ on January 29. Stay tuned!
