Masashi Kishimoto’sNarutohas been one of the greatest Shonen series that has elevated the allure of the genre over its mesmerizing storyline and a long list of characters. What makes it so intriguing is how the author would use these characters to showcase the complex themes of letting go of one’s past and forgetting the ones who have wronged us.

Pain

Well, for the most part, they practiced these qualities, but for one character, they can’t bring themselves to forget. It’s none other than the Legendary Sannin of Konohagakure, Orochimaru, who has become the most memorable villain of the franchise.

However, every viewer of the Shinobi series has unanimously expressed their detest for the character. Some have even crossed the line, stating how he should have suffered by the end of the series.

Orochimaru

Orochimaru is a testament to pure evil

In the Shonen genre,Masashi Kishimoto’sNarutohas featured a ton of villains, who are broken heroes, names like Pain, Madara Uchiha, Itachi Uchiha, and so many more, who have gained empathy from the audience. However, when it comes to Orochimaru, such feelings can’t be felt for him because his character is veiled with darkness and terror, instilling fear not just to his foes but to the viewers as well.

Although he was not always a villain, he had his humble beginnings under the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. While his role as a villain sounds quite astounding, especially when he grew up alongside Tsunade Senju and Jiraiya. This trio was called the Legendary Sannin of the Leaf, playing a major role in the Second Great Ninja War.

However, trouble started to loom when his insatiable thirst for power couldn’t be satisfied, and he resorted to learning Forbidden Jutsus to achieve greater power. This made him make some morally questionable choices and even take the lives of innocent ninjas in the process.

Despite his craving for power, he was not a villain, but when his intentionsblurred the thin line between morality and villainy, trouble began. Thus, putting him on a path from where there was no return. His hatred got the better of him when he killed his Sensei and wanted to kill and destroy the very village where he grew up.

Surprisingly, the rift was not because of a major reason; in fact, this hatred manifested when his evil intentions were unraveled and his plan was stopped when Shinobis infiltrated his lab. Following his escape from the village, heattempted to use Itachi as his vesselwhen he joined Akatsuki.

What annoyed the fandom was how the villains, who were less evil, had to die, but the mangaka decided to bring his story to a full circle. Thus, giving him his undeserving redemption arc, where he is faithfully an ally of the Hidden Leaf.

Narutofans are fuming over Orochimaru’s undeserved atonement arc

By the end ofNaruto: Shippuden,Orochimaru had a change of heart, and he assisted the Great Shinobi Army by summoning the four Hokages of Konoha, which turned the tide of the battle.

Once the war came to an end, we saw him in a new avatar inBoruto: Naruto Next Generations, where he is now trying to be a good father to his son, Mitsuki. Though he is not evil anymore, fans are losing their minds on what he deserves to have a redemption arc.

This feeling of detest was evident when a Reddit user shared a post onr/Naruto, asking,“Do you think Orochimaru deserved to die?”The question received an overwhelming amount of support from the fandom, where they unanimously wished the character to receive a punishment from hell. The fans commented,

Though a character like Orochimaru does not deserve anyone’s kindness, Kishimoto-Sensei’s magnum opus is all about second chances. While the character was a power-hungry villain who would chop up his foes or implant a cursed seal on them to make them his followers, he decided to leave that life behind and make a fresh start.

Despite looking odd, he is an attentive parent, sending his child to school and adhering to all his needs in his own way. Additionally, he is far less violent than what we have seen in the original two series. This character development showcases how everyone can change if they make an active effort.

Narutocan be streamed on Netflix.
