In Hollywood, male actors have long been the ones leading action-packed superhero films, with their characters often portrayed as strong and dominant. But when Evangeline Lilly was cast inAnt-Man and the Wasp, she was given a chance to take on a key role as a female superhero.
However, her experience behind the scenes revealed that, despite this opportunity, her character was still shaped by the same traditional formulas often applied to male superheroes.
In a candid interview, she shared her thoughts on how her character was portrayed and why she felt there was more to be done to truly empower female heroes in Hollywood.

Marvel Studios has taken noticeable strides toward gender inclusivity in recent years, with female superheroes receiving more screen time and even leading their own films. One of the early steps in this direction wasAnt-Man and the Wasp, which marked the first time a woman’s name appeared in the title of a Marvel movie. Starring alongside Paul Rudd,Evangeline Lillytook on the role of Hope van Dyne, also known as the Wasp.
However, while the film was a milestone for female representation, she felt that something was off with how her character was portrayed. In an interview withThe Sun,Lilly revealed that she had to step in when she noticed how the Wasp’s fight sequences were choreographed. According to her, the action scenes were designed with a traditional male hero in mind, rather than considering the unique qualities of her character.

The push for equality, while well-intentioned, led to what she described as“disrespecting her femininity.”She also pointed out that this issue wasn’t intentional but rather a byproduct of how Hollywood has traditionally written stories. The actress added:
I think what happens in some ways is, unintentionally, male producers and directors and writers want to write stories that have women at the helm of them, but they’ve been writing the same stories for so long and those are male stories, so what they do is write a male story and put a women in the lead.
For the actress, creating strong female leads isn’t just about placing women in action-heavy roles; it’s about ensuring that their characters are written with authenticity. While Marvel’s efforts toward inclusivity have been widely recognized, Lilly’s insights serve as a reminder that true progress requires more than just representation, it demands a fresh perspective on storytelling itself.
Michael B. Jordan supports Jonathan Majors despite his controversy
Despite the legal turmoil surroundingJonathan Majors, Michael B. Jordan has made it clear that he stands by his friend and co-star. In an interview withGQ,he expressed pride in Majors’ ability to navigate the tough situation with resilience. When asked whether he would collaborate with the actor again, Jordan confirmed without hesitation,“Yes. Yes.”

He had introduced the character inAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaand was set to be a major villain in the upcomingAvengersfilms. Following the charges, Marvel rebranded the 2026 movieAvengers: The Kang DynastytoAvengers: Doomsday.
