TheStar Warsuniverse is filled with unique stories and interconnected plot points spanning centuries of lore and narrative. The space opera saga launched by George Lucas mainly focused on the tragic downfall and eventual redemption of Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader. However, it has since expanded into several different avenues.

Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace is an adaptation of the film of the same name was released in 1999.

The franchise has thrived on supplementary media outside the mainline Skywalker saga movies, fleshing out the arcs of several side characters. As a result, every choice, and every event is consequential in the grand scheme of things. Therefore, a series exploring alternate realities where some of these events did not occur, akin to Marvel’sWhat If…?is an enticing prospect. Here are the top 5 scenarios we would like to see in such a series.

5What If Count Dooku Had Been Assassinated?

Count Dooku played a crucial role in the prequel trilogy, leading the Confederacy during the Clone Wars. The apprentice of Darth Sidious was later killed by Anakin Skywalker. However, in the novelDark Disciple, based on a scrapped story arc forThe Clone Warsanimated series, Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos attempted to assassinate Dooku.

While the duo eventually failed, it would make for an interesting alternate reality scenario to see Dooku killed at the hands of his former apprentice, Ventress. Not only would Ventress survive in this alternate reality, but Sidious’ plans and control over the conflict in the galaxy would also have significantly weakened.

4What if Ezra became Darth Maul’s Apprentice?

In the animatedStar Wars Rebelsseries, Ezra Bridger is trained as a Jedi by Kanan Jarrus. However, at one point in the story, Maul offers to take on Ezra as his apprentice, forcing the young Padawan to choose between the dark and light sides of the Force. Therefore, Ezra choosing the dark side and joining Maul would be an interesting reality to explore.

Maul is notorious for mistreating his apprentices, including his brother. As a result, Ezra might have ventured deeper into the dark side under his new master. Moreover, Maul always wanted to overthrow Sidious but lacked a strong apprentice to help him. As a result, Ezra might have filled that void, leading Maul to take over the Empire in this reality.

3What If the Jedi Order Survived Order 66?

Order 66 executed by Darth Sidious led to the destruction of the Jedi Order at the end ofRevenge of the Sith. As a result, Sidious took over the galaxy with the help of his new apprentice, Darth Vader. However, an alternate reality wherethe Clone Troopers resisted Order 66and a majority of the Jedi survived would drastically change how we view the galaxy far, far away.

In this reality, the Jedi would have never split up, with Yoda killing Sidious. Meanwhile, Plo Koon and Obi-Wan might have teamed up to take down Anakin on Mustafar. As a result, Anakin would have been arrested and imprisoned, only to later escape, fueled by a thirst to exact vengeance on the galaxy that wronged him.

2What If Ahsoka Raised the Skywalker Twins?

Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan of Anakin played a crucial role in the latter’s fall to the dark side, leaving the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars. As a result, Ahsoka is absent for most of the original trilogy, which sees Luke fighting against the Empire and trying to bring his father back to the light side of the Force.

“There wasn’t a movie genre like that”: George Lucas Knows the Biggest Reason Behind Star Wars Success Was Never the Groundbreaking Visuals

In an alternate reality, Ahsoka might have been entrusted with raising the Skywalker twins after the death of their mother and Anakin’s fall to the dark side. Ahsoka’s disillusionment with the Jedi Order might have affected how she trains the twins in the Force, in turn, affecting how the twins deal with bringing Anakin back to the light side.

1What If Qui-Gon Didn’t Die?

Finally, what if the event that arguably had the biggest domino effect onGeorge Lucas‘ franchise would have been averted? Qui-Gon Jinn dying at the hands of Darth Maul inThe Phantom Menaceset off a chain of events that culminated with Anakin falling to the dark side. As a result, if Qui-Gon had survived we could have potentially seen a full light side Anakin.

In this alternate reality, Qui-Gon would have trained Anakin alongside Obi-Wan, making them two of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy. The trio could have made quick work of Sidious with a majority of their conflict dealing withthe corruption and politics within the Jedi Council. Could the trio have inadvertently caused a Jedi civil war? Only a potentialWhat If…?project might answer that.
