But while everything was going well in her professional life, a nearly fatal event that happened with her truly changed how she perceived life. In 2015, the actress was assaulted by a homeless man, who nearly beat her to death.

While she was definitely shaken up, she used her platform and voice to bring in more attention to the issues that the homeless community has been facing. Not only that but she also asked for greater assistance to the police as well.

It was just a normal day for others, but forNCISactress Pauley Perrette it turned out to be her worst nightmare. The actress was ambushed and attacked by a homeless man outside her Hollywood Hills home as she was walking to a guest house in order to meet with her architect.
The attacker was later identified as a 45-year-old David Merck, and had punched the actress in the face, pinned her down by her arm and threatened to kill her. The actress described the entire ordeal in aninterviewadding:

On my street, I was jumped by a VERY psychotic homeless man. He grabbed me so forcefully, pinned my arm, punched me…repeatedly telling me he was going to kill me.
Perrette also added that the attacker only let her go when she prayed her heart out in front of him. After which she ran but soon collapsed on the sidewalk, but managed to message two of her friends, one of whom was a cop. She also immediately drew a sketch of the attacker, as he was headed towards Hollywood Boulevard.

Her cop friend managed to tail the man to the 7-Eleven at Cahuenga Boulevard at Yucca Street, and that’s when he was arrested on felony charges using the sketch she had provided.

Despite the brutal attack, the actress had no bitterness for the attacker and added viaNicki Swift:
We need full mental health care. We need housing and help for the homeless. We need to support our cops. We need to not walk alone.

She also encouraged others to work with the authorities to make the surroundings more secure as well as limit these attacks in the future.She also added“My heart breaks for the guy, and it breaks for every single person that’s out there on the streets.”
This showcased the level of compassion she had for the person who brutally attacked her, as well as her resolve to help the homeless.
