Relative to other FromSoftware titles,Elden Ringis easily the most accessible one for the average gamer. The open-world action RPG may still have its challenging moments, but Miyazaki wanted to make it approachable for someone who may not have played previous games from the studio.
That being said, some areas and fights in the game have stumped even the hardened Souls veteran. It seems Miyazaki is looking to bring over the same experience to the upcoming expansion, as some bosses may be modeled after the hardest one in the base game.
Shadow of the Erdtree May Pay Homage to Malenia
In aninterview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki, Creative Director at FromSoftware, revealed many aspects of the upcoming DLC,Shadow of the Erdtree. To access the DLC, the player will have to have beaten Mohg who is found in a late-game area. Given this, most players are going to have invested a fair amount of time inElden Ringfleshing out their character to overcome foes.
Miyazaki said the goal is to create a challenging experience that is also rewarding for the player. He also emphasized the studio also focuses on freedom of choice, allowing players to circumvent certain enemies. Those who wish to skip some bosses can do so, and the more hardcore players will have their share of challenging fights as well.

He stated some optional bosses have been “tuned in a similar way to the likes of Malenia.” Demigod sister to Miquella, she is easily one of the most difficult bosses in the game. Even thoughLetMeSoloHer toys with her, it’s a difficult fight that many give up on as it’s not necessary to beat the game.
FromSoftware’s goal with the DLC bosses was not to create a boss that is a Malenia clone, but one that offers the same level of challenge to the player so they are just as memorable. The meaning of his statement is a bit open-ended, but it doesn’t rule out the fact that we may have a Malenia 2.0 on our hands.
The Elden Ring DLC Will Offer a Lot of New Content
Shadow of the Erdtreeis going to be a large expansion,Miyazaki already stated it’s the largest DLCFromSoftware has released to date. So, that stands to reason there’s going to be a lot of bosses to take down, both mandatory and optional ones. Some gamers are going to be happy to know that some of the most difficult ones are going to be optional.

Slated to release in June, the expansion is going to follow the trail of Miquella into a new land. Players will be able to access all new weapons and learn new lore regarding old and new characters, to get a better understanding of the world ofElden Ring.
New weapons and spells may be exciting, but if we have to go up against another Malenia, our only course of action will be to ‘git gud’. That, or hope LetMeSoloHer decides to expand his area of expertise.
