Sometimes, you’ll spot him before you even beat Eikthyr. Other times, you’ll be well on your way through the Plains biome before you see his camp in the distance. Ideally, you want access to his wares as soon as possible, so here’s how you can find the Trader consistently and why you want to meet him in the first place.
How To Find The Trader
The easiest way to spot the Trader is to just pay attention to your map. When you’re close to him,a bag symbol will appear on your maplong before you could’ve spotted him with your eyes. In most playthroughs, this will happen normally as you explore the world and look for new biomes, but what do you do if the Trader is being shy?
Once you find the Trader, build a portal nearbyso that you may get back to him whenever. You can teleport everything that can be sold to or bought from him.

Each Valheim world generates with 10 possible spawn locations for the Trader, all those locationshave to be a decent distance from the center of the map and in Black Forest biomes.Whichever location you approach first will become the actual spawn location of the Trader.
If you want to find the Trader as soon as possible, sail up and downthe length of these Black Forest biomes. The Trader is usually close enough to the coast that you’ll get the symbol to appear if you sail nearby.

If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to search the forests on foot, but you don’t have to comb every inch. Just run in a straight line through the biome, shifting over a few mini-map screens every time you reach an edge. If you don’t have the time for that, you can always rely on world-generation toolsthat can feed you the Trader spawn locations based on your world seed.

Why You Want To Meet The Trader
The Trader sells all sorts of useful items and is theonly non-decorative use for all the gold and gems you’ve been findingin dungeons. Gold can be used to buy items in his shop, and gems can be sold to Haldor for more gold.
Haldor’s stock isfilled with unique and game-changing items. The Fishing Rod unlocks a whole new method of getting food, the Megingjord is the only way to increase your carrying capacity, andYmir Flesh is a special materialused in a handful of useful weapons. While none of these items are required to beat the game, they serve vital functions that can make certain parts much easier.
Keep in mind thatsome of Haldor’s wares only unlock after beating certain bosses,so if he’s not selling what you were expecting, try again after making it to the next biome.
