But how do you find the seeds you need to grow this crop, and how do you even farm them once you do? Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about finding, farming, and making the most of Turnips.
How To Find Turnips
Turnips are the second growable crop you’ll come across in your average Valheim playthrough, butyou need to find the seeds first. In this case, you’ll need to thoroughly explore the Swamps of your world.
You’re looking fora dull yellow flower with three stalksamid the dull grasses and weeds of the wetlands. That might sound easy to spot, butthe Swamps isn’t the type of biomethat leaves you with plenty of time to look around, and to make matters worse, Wild Turnip Seeds tend to spawn on their own.

Expect to have to search for a while— possibly hours — before finding Wild Turnip Seeds, andunlike Carrot Seeds, you should plant them as soon as you find them. Turnip Seeds are rare enough that you’re unlikely to find even a handful, so the best course of action is to start growing as soon as possible.

How To Farm Turnips
To farm Turnips, you’ll need a Cultivator, which can bemade with Bronzeand Core Wood, and a patch of cultivated ground. Simply select Turnips in the Cultivator menu and plant as many as you’re able to in what space you have. Be careful, however, because planting Turnips too close to each other or various structures can cause them to wither and die.
After a successful harvest, you’ll have to dedicate a portion of your crop to growing Seed Turnips, which will yield three Turnip Seeds when harvested. That means you shouldset aside a third of your Turnips each timeto keep your harvest at the same size.

Farming Turnips Efficiently
Turnips are slightly larger than Carrots, and while their visual size better represents the space you’ll need between plants, in the end,it still boils down to a bit more than 3/4 of an in-game building unit. This means you can fit 10 Turnips in a three-by-one patch of cultivated land, but opting to plant only eight will keep you from making placement mistakes too often.
Seed Turnips are slightly smallerthan their tuber counterparts, meaning you can comfortably fit 10 into a three-by-one space.

How To Use Turnips
Unlike Carrots,Turnips cannot be eaten raw.Instead, you have to use them in the appropriate crafting recipes at the Cauldron. There are two notable recipes that can help you get through the Swamps. The first is Turnip Stew, which uses three Turnips and one piece of Boar Meat to make a great mid-game stamina food. The second is Black Soup, which calls for Turnips, Honey, and Bloodbags to craft a decent health food.
