About a year ago, the famous game engine company Unity announced an utterlyinsane Runtime Fee, which meantmajor developers would be charged for every game installed through theUnityEngine.
A few clarifications were quickly made, withUnity attempting to backpedaland re-clarify what this new pricing model meant.

Still, regardless of whatever they could say, this new payment method was an obvious misstep andimmediatelyhurt their reputation in the eyes of fans and developers.
Flappy Bird Is Soaring Back To Mobile Devices After Nearly 10 Years
Over ten years have passed since the departure of mobile game Flappy Bird. In 2025, it’s making its triumphant return.
Luckily,Unity has announcedit isfinally canceling these unnecessary Runtime Fees. This will make it much easier for developers to create games on its platform, leading to a triumph for all game creators across the industry.

First of all, we should note that the Runtime Fee wasn’t constructed out of pure malice; to be fair, it makes sense that more popular developers would be expected to give more money to the platform they use to create their games.
However, this could already be achieved via varying licenses and payment plans.Tying this to the actual number of downloads for a game is also completely absurd, especially given the modern gaming landscape.

10 Scariest Moments in Non-Horror Games
Even though a video game’s genre isn’t horror, that doesn’t mean it can’t scare you. These are some of the scariest moments in non-horror games.
Many games are free to play, and others are a part of subscription services like the popularXbox Game Pass. While the Runtime Fee had specific qualifications and workarounds for different types of games,it could not encompass every developer’s unique situation.

For instance, indie developers were horrified about these fees, as a small team that had overnight success could then be stuck with owing Unity hundreds of thousands of dollars. This, in turn, led to amassive exodus of indie developersfrom the platform.
Unity Aim To Regain Developer Trust
To be fair, the latest update, in which they have canceled these fees, definitely makes some concessions to developers. Unity Pro will have an 8% price increase, Unity Enterprise will have a 25% price increase, and Unity Personal will be free until $200,000 income is made (up from $100,000).
In their post, Unity explains thatthey will now try to “revert to a more traditional cycle” with more traditional annual price increases.
In truth, Unity is a business, and some ofits recent failuresand an evolving industry mean it is reasonably trying to make more money.
At least this is an excellent step by Unity to regain trust, being clear and concise instead of alienating the users of your engine who are just trying to make a pleasant game for people to play.
That said, withUnreal Engine 5boasting huge technology upgrades and other smaller platforms like Godot becoming increasingly popular for indie developers, this is just a small step for Unity to return to its place in the larger market.
