In theCall of Dutyfranchise, melee mechanics have always been a topic of debate among players. The upcomingBlack Ops 6will introduce a dedicated melee weapon slot, allowing players to carry a melee weapon in addition to their primary and secondary firearms.

Treyarch, the studio behindBlack Ops 6announced the return of dedicated melee weapons. Unlike previous games where players had to choose between a melee weapon and a sidearm,Black Ops 6will allow players to carry a primary weapon, a secondary weapon, and a dedicated melee weapon.
Treyarch’s Associate Director of Design, Matt Scronce, has assured fans thatthey are approaching melee tuning with caution. The goal is to prevent melee weapons from becoming too dominant while still offering a viable close-combat option.

One of the main complaints about melee weapons inModern Warfare 3was their “obnoxious” nature. Players often found themselves at the mercy of snipers who, after missing a shot, could instantly switch to a melee weapon and close the distance.
Modern Warfare 3‘s Season 2 updatebrought a much-needed nerf to melee weapons, reducing the lunge distance by 30%. This change was a direct response to player feedback as players felt that melee attacks were overpowered. Combined with the speed and distance at which melee attacks could connect, it was frustrating to face.

TheBlack Ops 6beta marksthe first time in over a decadethat players on all platforms will be able to participate simultaneously. Previously, marketing deals between Activision and console manufacturers meant that one platform typically received early access.
