It’s been over eight years since George Miller’sMad Max: Fury Roadhit the theatres, and the filmmaker subsequently shared his plans for its sequels. Starring an ensemble cast including Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, the film was received very well, earning six Oscars at the 88th Academy Awards. A prequel of the film focusing on Theron’s character Imperator Furiosa is set to hit theatres soon as well.

Along with a spin-off, the filmmaker has also shared his plans to develop further sequels of the 2015 film. Earlier in an interview with The Independent, Miller shared his plans for the film series’ future, revealing that he envisionedMad Max: Fury Roadto develop into a trilogy.

The filmmaker has shared that they had enough story material for two more films, hinting towards a trilogy. He even revealed the working title for the sequelMad Max: The Wastelandin an interview withThe Independent.

During the interview, he also shared that while working on the 2015 film, they explored the “subtext” of the story and multiple characters, and“without really thinking about it, we wrote two other screenplays.”He further shared thatMad Max: Fury Roadwill be followed by two more movies.

“Somewhere, if the planets align, there will be two other films,”Miller told the outlet. The filmmaker hasreaffirmedhis intent to work on the franchise with three movies, a spin-off following Furiosa, portrayed by Charlize Theron in the 2015 film, and two sequels ofFury Road.

The spinoff,Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,is set to release this year and follows a young Furiosa’s journey back home through the Wasteland after she gets abducted from the Green Place of Many Mothers.

Along with George Miller,Tom Hardyhas confirmed the development of two additional sequels to the 2015 film. He has also reaffirmed his commitment to the franchise, as he once revealed that he has signed to threeMad Maxmovies and is eagerly waiting to reprise his role as Max Rockatansky. Hesaid,

“Yeah, as far as I’ve signed to do three of them. It’s a question of when. I’m not sure it’s called The Wasteland or not ‘cause you never know. These titles change all the time. But, there’s definitely another Mad Max project pending.”
