Attack on Titan: The Last Attackhas hit the theatres and fans have formal permission from the theatres to cry during special ‘crying screenings’. Yes, you heard that right! After the successful run of the movie at the theatres, special screenings are being held for crying purposes and the theatres have recommended the audience to bring tissues.

This special request by theatres sparks numerous doubts. But before we delve into the specifics, it’s worth noting how far we have come as a fandom, from criticizing the manga ending endlessly to celebrating it to such great lengths. As for the peculiar screenings, here’s everything you need to know about them.
Everything You Need to Know About The Tear-Jerking Screenings ofThe Last Attack
Attack on Titan: The Final Chapterswas released last year and most fans expected it to be the ending ofHajime Isayama‘s celebrated series. Only for the makers to announceThe Last Attack, which is a compilation of the final episodes of the anime along with a special post-credit scene. The production committee ofAttack on Titanhas announced special screenings ofThe Last Attackthrough the official website.
A total of nine theatres will organize these screenings across Japan on December 4th and December 11th. Fans are “officially” allowed to cry during these screenings and cheering is prohibited. For the same reason, they’re recommended to bring along tissues and handkerchiefs.

Attack on Titan is Giving Fans Crumbs One After the Other and the Latest Addition to The Last Attack Might Not be the End of It
These screenings are certainly quite bizarre. However, when one reminisces about the glorious run ofAttack on Titananime and manga, the tears start to well up. This reaction perfectly explains the need for these crying screenings. But to our dismay, they are exclusive to Japan, and that too for limited days. Even though these screenings make sense, they don’t help the heartbreak caused by the ending of the series.
The Last Attackis Just a Recap Movie That Doesn’t Affect the Final Developments
Attack on Titanmanga ended in 2021, and fans were not happy with how it concluded the story. Fans criticized the ending to no end and it was regarded as one of the worst anime endings. Most hoped that the anime would change the ending or at least make some tweaks to it. The ending in the anime was slightly different but there weren’t any major changes.

However, by that time, fans had warmed up to the ending. The execution and exploration of some of the controversial scenes was also handled better inAttack on Titan: The Final Chapters. So, overall the spectacular animation and the sombre conclusion felt like a fitting farewell.
Similarly,The Last Attackwon’t be changing any canon events from the anime ending. The only new addition to the movie is a post-credit scene that animates some panels fromAttack on School Castes. Even though most fans have already experienced the ending twice, they’ll show up again at the theatres for the heartbreak, and that’s the strength of the holdAttack on Titanhas on fans.
