Declan de Barra helms the long-awaited sequel along with The Witcher’s showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who received consultation from the original author, Andrzej Sapkowksi, during the production. The cast includes Michelle Yeah, who shows off great fighting skills in the teaser as the sword-elf Scian. Yeoh is accompanied by Laurence O’Fuarain, Sophia Brown, and Jacob Collins-Levy. We will also see Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, and Huw Nowelli in the long-awaited prequel that will shed light on major events in the history of The Continent.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will introduce The Continent, the fictional universe in which the story of The Witcher takes place, in a state of chaos and cosmic anomalies. The four-episode prequel will focus on the events that lead up to the Conjunction of the Spheres, a pivotal event in the history of The Witcher’s world.

This critical occurrence results in utter chaos in the world as it merges the “spheres” and brings the dimensions of men, elves, and monsters together. And one of the many consequences of this cosmic event is the creation of Witchers, genetically enhanced monster hunters that keep the dangers at bay. Of course, the most famous among these monster slayers is our very own Geralt of Rivia who starred in a multitude of works starting from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, The Witcher games, and most recently, the Netflix adaptation.

While The Witcher: Blood Origin trailer has landed on YouTube to amp up expectations, the recent announcements regarding the original show revealed saddening news for the fans.Henry Cavill will be leaving the mantle of Geralt of Riviain Season 4, which means The Witcher Season 3 will be the last time Cavill plays the Rivian monster hunter.

The third installment is on its way toarrive during the summer of 2023. While there is still no word on a definitive release date for Season 3,it has officially been sharedthat Liam Hemsworth will be the next Geralt in Season 4. Until the next season arrives, fans of Netflix' The Witcher will dive into the prequel to watch events unfold on The Continent in its much younger state.
