In a surprise announcement at theNintendoDirect yesterday, a brand new Legend of Zelda entry was revealed to the world.The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will actually star Zelda this time, something fans of the franchise have been crying out for years to happen.
Although Zelda won’t have the same weapons as Link, who is lost down a void somewhere, she will have a unique skill set that involves her trusty magic wand, which has the ability to copy objects and summon monsters to fight by her side. In another surprise reveal, players will only have to wait a few months before they can get their hands on it when it releases on September 27.
But of course, there are always those who want to spoil the fun and throw hate at the mere concept that Zelda is the main focus this time around, calling the game “woke”.

Just like many other titles including GTA 6 and Forspoken, to name only a few, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has also received hate from the “anti-woke” folk amid criticism forallowingZelda to “ruin” its beloved franchise. I mean, even typing those words makes me feel like I need a shower.
On Twiiter/X, where all the lovely things happen, some people were more than a little salty about Nintendo casting Link to the side to replace him with Zelda as the protagonist. One user, who has since deleted their post but has since beenscreenshotted, thought that Nintendo did a “disservice” to Zelda by letting her have her own adventure, when instead they should have explored her background more (you know, the story in which she is kidnapped), so for that reason, Nintendo is “in favor of the woke appeal”.
Anotherbelievesthat Zelda shouldn’t have made an appearance at all this time around and this is what happens when they, I’m assuming Nintendo, “infects the Zelda franchise with woke”. But, for the icing on top of the cake, the worst takes have been highlighted by a user who has called out the total madness that some people say because Zelda is playable and not Link. Between “Forcing feminism down our throats” and “Zelda has gone woke”, to how it is now an “End to an era”, the antiwoke group seems to be foaming at the mouth, but yet, we all know they will likely secretly play it and love it just as much as everyone else. Even among these ridiculous “pick me” comments, the vast majority of Zelda fans are absolutely loving the fact that they finally get to play as Zelda after all this time, and we can’t say we blame them as even coming from someone who hasn’t played a lot of the franchise, this is definitely something I’d pick up on release day.
