While Season 2 ofHBO’s The Last of Us TVseries is based on the second game, it won’t be a 1:1 reenactment. Not only that, but the show’s producers have already confirmed that Season 2 won’t cover the entire story arc of The Last of Us Part 2, as it will be split into multiple seasons.
It’s currently unknown how many seasons HBO will need to develop The Last of Us Part 2’s entire story for the small screen, but one thing we can be sure of is, it won’t follow the same path as Game of Thrones.

Don’t Expect The HBO The Last of Us TV Series To Overtake The Game’s Story
According to The Last of Us TV series showrunner Craig Mazin, they (alongside co-showrunner Neil Druckmann) have no intention of mimicking what HBO’s Game of Thrones TV series did when it splintered on its own and went past the books' storyline.
Speaking to theHollywood Reporter, Mazin said, “I am not going to go past the game. I’ll just say that flat out. So if people are thinking, ‘Oh, these guys are planning the old cash grab thing.” Mazin wants the show to have a definite end, adding, “I’m basically setting a decade of my rapidly dwindling life on fire to tell this story. The show is so hard to make. It has to have an end. So I’m not going to go past.”
Mazin also mentions, “Who knows, there might be a Dunk and Egg The Last of Us show that happens that somebody does. But for me, the only question is: Is it going to be one more season or will it require two more? If this can happen all in one more season, great. If we feel like it makes sense to break it into two, then we will do that.”
For those unaware, HBO’s Game of Thrones was based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire & Ice saga of books. While the books came out first, Martin took so long to write the sixth book in the series, titled “The Winds of Winter”, that the show eventually overtook the book’s story.
As a huge fan of Game of Thrones, the entire series was phenomenal save for the last season, which undid all the amazing buildup the series did to end on a whimper that got so bad, fans petitioned for HBO to remake the entire eight season to end the series properly.

HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 premieres on April 13, and so far, it’s shaping up wellbased on what we’ve seen. According to Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, evne if the TV series strays from the game, the “DNA is still there,” which should be good news for fans of the game and the TV show.
As for the game, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is getting released on PC this week, and to coincide with its release, Naughty Dog will be releasinga new patch adding new trophies and moreto the console version.
