A lawsuit filed on Sunday accused Jay-Z of r*ping a 13-year-old girl, with none other than Sean Combs allegedly involved as well. The details are horrifying, to say the least. And while Jay-Z has firmly denied these charges, claiming they’re part of a blackmail scheme, the gravity of the situation cannot be ignored.
Now, let’s take a step back to September 2024, when Nicki Minaj stirred the pot in her own right. The topic? Her involvement—or alleged lack thereof—in the 2021 sale of Tidal, the streaming service co-owned by Jay-Z.
A heated back-and-forth erupted when record executive Steve Stoute accused Minaj of being handed equity in the platform before its sale, only to drop the ball by not signing the paperwork. He was adamant that she missed out on millions because of this oversight, questioning her loyalty to the deal.
But Minaj wasn’t having any of it.

Earlier in September, record executive Steve Stoute threw a wrench in the works by claiming that Jay-Z had offeredNicki Minajequity in Tidal before its 2021 sale. Speaking candidly onThe Pivotpodcast on September 20, Stoute was blunt about the whole situation:
Nicki didn’t sign the f—ing paperwork. That’s the reason why you left millions of dollars on the table.
According to Stoute, Jay-Z didn’t really“didn’t do nothing to you [Minaj]”. This accusation, however, didn’t sit well with Minaj, who was quick to call out Stoute’s version of events. In a fiery series of tweets, she painted a very different picture.

According to her, she was told that the deal was barely profitable and that they could offer her only “a million dollars”:

She continued, calling the entire situation a scam and claiming she was being silenced with an underwhelming offer of $1 million. Minaj’s X tirade didn’t stop there. After seeing reports claiming she was one of the 16 Tidal co-owners who received an $8.9 million payout from the sale, she threw some serious shade:

Minaj also expressed a critique of certain men who, according to her, are frustrated or angry at women because they are not being “authentic or truthful”about their own lives:

Her frustration didn’t stop at business dealings, though. Minaj raised some heavy questions about the men in her industry, especially in relation to Diddy’s past. In another X post, she called out Stoute and Jay-Z and suggested that people are deliberately trying to shift the focus onto her to distract from serious allegations or issues surrounding their“BFF”(best friend forever), likely referring to Diddy.

The plaintiff, who is unnamed, amended the lawsuit to name Jay-Z as the other celebrity involved in the attack. According to court documents, she alleges that after drinking a beverage that made her“woozy and lightheaded,” she was led to a bedroom, where Jay-Z allegedly held her down as Combs assaulted her.
The lawsuit was filed by Tony Buzbee, a Houston-based personal injury attorney known for his high-profile cases. Jay-Z’s legal team has not stayed silent either. In an extensive response, the rapper called out the plaintiff’s attorney, rejecting the demand for a settlement with a fiery statement:

According to the plaintiff’s version of events, she attended the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000, hoping to get into the show or attend an after-party. After being offered a ride by a driver, who allegedly worked forDiddy, she was taken to a large “white residence”.

It’s there that, after drinking the beverage, she began to feel faint and eventually found herself in a bedroom where the assault allegedly occurred.
Meanwhile, Combs’s lawyers called the media attention surrounding the case “reckless” and accused Buzbee of creating a “media circus”to gain publicity. Whether the case is brushed off as just another publicity stunt or reveals a darker truth, it’s clear this legal battle is definitely one to keep an eye on.
