The Callisto Protocolis the spiritual successor to Dead Space. While the general idea of zombie-like creatures in space is directly influenced, Callisto Protocol also takes further inspiration by incorporating its health bar into the game, much like Dead Space. Jacob’s and other prisoners' health is displayed on the back of their necks thanks to their implants for being a prisoner.

This display keeps your heath bar right in eyesight instead of sticking it in the bottom corner of the screen on a HUB system meant for the player. Until you’ve mastered the combat or have a mountain of bullets, it’s safe to say this health bar will fluctuate greatly in your escape from Callisto; here’s how to best manage your health and healing items.
Health Display And Increasing Health
In the first few minutes of the game, Jacob is brought into Black Iron Prison andgiven an implant on the back of his neck. These implants allow him tointeract with the system around the prisonandalso act as a health bar.With the over-the-shoulder camera, this health bar is front and center for players to see without taking up space and blocking their view. Much like the usual formula, the bar is green when full or almost full, yellow at medium health, and red should Jacob’s health get too low.
After thethird chapter of the game, “Habitat,“you’ll see thesuit on the cover of the game, showingmore inspiration the developers have incorporatedinto this game. With this suit, Jacob willreceive a bonus in health. Before now, only a few hits could take Jacob down, and thesuit provides a noticeable boost. While the suit covers Jacob’s entire body, his implant’s health bar is still displayed along the back of his neck andvisible to the player.

Restoring Health
There are two main methods to restoring health in Callisto Protocol. The first method is tofind health gel around the map. Health gel is one of therandomized loot possibilitiesfromchests, lockers, boxes, or dead enemies. These health gels onlyrestore a bit of healthbut do soinstantly. Health Gel can’t be collected and is used immediately when picked up. It is best to look around and utilize any health gel after a battle before turning to the second method of restoring health.
The second method of restoring lost health isutilizing health injectors. Health injectors are collected and stored in your inventory to be used whenever you see best. These injectors do require Jacob tostop moving, crouch down, and injectthe whole vial into the back of his neck, making this dangerous to use inthe brutal combat of this game. These injectors can be found onsmall white med packs along the wall.Holding onto health injectors does take up an inventory slot. Should you be in desperate need,injectors can also be purchased at 3-D printers.
