The wait is finally over! The third season ofBleach: Thousand-Year Blood Warhas released its first episode, sending waves of excitement throughout the anime world. With a rating of 9.7 from a major community poll, this episode even topped the insane amount of hype forDandadan(9.3).

Uryu Ishida from the Bleach series

In the 2024 Anime Expo, the Anime Corner Team was able to get an exclusive interview with the voice actors from theBleachEnglish cast, Derek Stephen Prince and Xander Mobus. Prince voices Uryu Ishida, while Mobus takes on the roles of Bazz B and Quilge Opie. They went into deep analysis regarding their journey inBleach, highlighting how they were able to get this dream job.

Mobus Was Born To Play The Role of Bass B & Quilge

Xander Mobus himself admits that, for the English cast for Bazz B and Quilge Opie inBleach, he didn’t even need to sit for an audition.According to Mobus, the hiring team put it simply, saying for a weirdo or a villainous character type, they thought of him for sure. Mobus recalls the words the studio said,

“If there’s a weirdo, we get Xander. And if there’s a villain, we get Xander. And we had a weirdo villain. So we got Xander.” And that could be kind of insulting.

Saying stuff like this could have been insulting indeed, but Mobus took it as a joke and made full use of the advantages that came with it. Laughing, he said,

But on the other hand, job security, baby, let’s go (laughs). So I didn’t audition.

This strange casting system ultimately became a plus for Mobus himself, proving that the studio trusted him with any role. With his previous experiences, Mobus easily moved into the roles of Bazz B and Quilge Opie, thrusting out his signature style over the characters. He is a prime example of the power of established relationships and reputation in voice voice-acting universe.

Mobus’ Past Experiences of Working on Other Tite Kubo Projects Assured Him This Position

Mobus, having worked on other Tite Kubo anime projects in the past, was brought on board forBleachwithout a second doubt. In particular, his involvement with the spin-off,Burn the Witch, set within the same universe, allowed him to be familiarized with Kubo’s storytelling style. In the same interview, Mobus explained that he is actually very eager to continueBurn the Witch, as it left him dangling since his storyline of the character in the anime ended very abruptly.

But it was absolutely surreal coming in for it. When we did Burn the Witch, which was another Tite Kubo story that’s set in the same universe, we got a couple of specials for that. And supposedly, we’re doing more, which would be great, because the finale of that is a major cliffhanger for the character I play. And I was like, “You’re gonna just leave me here? Come on, bro.”

BeforeBleach: TYBWwas officially announced, Mobus felt that fans were maybe talking about a potential revamp or continuation ofBleach. Many of Mobus’ friends had readBleachas they grew older, and back in those days, the air was filled with excitement surrounding this manga.

And so many of my friends grew up on the show. So there was a palpable excitement to it. [ . . .] When I got the email being like, “Hey, do you want to come in and record on this?” I was over the moon.

Mobus was so excited to join theBleachcast when the opportunity arose. He was over the moon after receiving a call to record an email for the series. He had worked on Kubo’s material earlier and could not wait for the return ofBleach. Any work in the series could only be a tremendous prospect for him, and Mobus was thrilled to take up the challenge.
