In its 300-plus episode count,Supernaturalhas rarely ever delivered an episode that fans have universally panned. However, there have been rare occasions when the IMDb rating of some episodes has dipped below 7, and sometimes even 6.

While not the worst episode in the show, but just a couple digits off from being so,Bugswas perhaps the career low for a long time for many fans, and certainly according to IMDb ratings. Jared Padalecki opened up about the episode, and why he regretted making it at all.
Jared Padalecki believed that a shorter Season could have done away with episodes likeBugs
Jared Padaleckibelieved that with longer seasons as was the case withSupernatural, even the best writers would end up with a bad episode at hand. This could have been the case withBugsas well, which the actor agrees might not have been a part of the show if they were given an order for a tighter season with fewer episodes. He said (viaTV Insider):
I think Jim Beaver at one of our Comic-Con panels said about 22 or 23-episode seasons, ‘You know, even if it’s the best batter on the planet, if Ted Williams goes to bat 23 times, he’s gonna strike out a few times,’” he recalled. “And so I think a shortened season would just be a really strong, action-packed, story-packed season where we don’t have to do an episode like ‘Bugs’ in season 1 of Supernatural.

Jim Beaver was a part ofSupernaturalas Bobby Singer and was more recently seen inThe Boysas Robert Singer. Padalecki was of the opinion that what the actor said about the length of the seasons was exactly what led to an episode likeBugs, which the actor was not very keen on, just like critics and most of the fandom.
Jared Padalecki got on Walker what he asked for onSupernatural
Jared Padalecki talked about how one of the most remarkable changes of pace that he received on Walker, was that each season was 13 episodes only. According to the actor, this is something he, along with his fellow lead Jensen Ackles, had asked for onSupernatural. He said:
You know, Jensen and I asked for 13-episode seasons of Supernatural, many, many, many times. As a matter of fact, I feel like if we had done 13-episode seasons of Supernatural, we’d probably still be doing Supernatural right now. Because it’s hard to do a long network season while also trying to be a husband and a father and friend.

Supernatural‘s longer seasons managed to keep a steady quality that fans found interesting. However, there were some episodes likeBugsandBloodlineswhich were universally panned by critics and fans alike, given that they lagged quite behind in terms of quality when it came to their writing.
Supernaturalcan be streamed on Netflix.
