Universal Studios Hollywood revealed on Wednesday that it would be opening its first U.S. iteration of the Super Nintendo World theme park on February 17. The park hasposted a websiteandvideo trailergiving eager fans a taste of what they can expect once the full experience opens up next year.

Fans in Japan have already gotten to enjoy their own Super Nintendo World since March 2021. That version of the park opened in Universal Studios Japan, thoughnot without its own delaysdue to a COVID-19 state of emergency being declared in the Osaka area. Since then, anticipation for the long-teased international incarnations of the park has only grown for those in other parts of the world.

Those in the United States won’t have to wait much longer. Universal Studios’s announcement promises the February 17 opening date and also outlines the various activities that park goers will be able to look forward to upon visiting. This includes an AR-enhanced Mario Kart attraction titledMario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. Points collected in this ride and other challenges can be tracked on a Power-Up Band purchased within the park. The trailer shows off the scenery of the area that visitors will be able to take in, including versions of Peach and Bowser’s castles and Question Blocks that can actually be interacted with using those Power-Up Bands.

Super Nintendo World will also feature other expected amusement park amenities. There is a themed restaurant called the Toadstool Café, as well as the 1-UP Factory, a gift shop featuring Nintendo souvenirs. And of course, costumed characters representing Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach will be on-hand for visitors to take photos with. Interaction with the aforementioned Power-Up Band is also promised.

It’s been a long road of eager anticipation for Super Nintendo World here, since the concept was first unveiled back in 2016, and Universal Studios knows it. The amusement park has already been selling merchandise affiliated with the park in other stores in its Universal Studios Hollywood location. The company has confirmed plans for there to be a total of four iterations of the park worldwide, with the remaining two to open in Singapore and Florida later on. A Nintendo theme park has long been a dream proposition for so many video game fans, and there still exists the question of how well this will be able to deliver on their lofty expectations. Either way, those fans will get their first opportunity to find out in February.
