The June 2025 Xbox Showcase just wrapped up and was a banger of a presentation full of an insane amount of exciting world premieres. One trailer featured an initial “SMB” misdirect with a green, Mario-style warp pipe that made viewers initially wonder if we were about to get a crazy Mario x Xbox crossover, but that was not the case.

The series is going bigger than ever before.

What we did get instead was almost equally exciting, as it was then revealed that thetough-as-nailsSuper Meat Boy series has decided to make their first foray into the world of the 3D platformer with the forthcoming Super Meat Boy 3D.

While our squishy, bloody hero has starred in steadily declining titles in terms of critical reception since his first, beloved appearance in 2010’sSuper Meat Boy, a new perspective could be just what the franchise needs to get back on track.

Super Meat Boy 3D Could Be The Most Punishing 3D Platformer Ever

If you’re familiar with the series at all, you know that the Super Meat Boy games are known for their crushing difficulty despite their cute, albeit gross, visual presentation. It appears that this 3D iteration will be no different.

The Super Meat Boy 3D trailer once again lured us in with its charming and colorful style before bombarding us with gory death after death for our poor lad. As you’d expect, sawblades seem to be in no shortage here once again, and you’ll need to perfect your wall running and precision platforming to come out of this game in one piece.

The series is known for its room-based, “one more try” type of gameplay loop, so it will be interesting to see how this formula translates to the world of 3D. If the constant player deaths present in the trailer are any indication, this is going to be yet another borderline rage-bait title designed for those of us that crave the toughest platforming possible.

Dr. Fetus seems to be back this time around, but other boss fights are also mentioned on theXbox product pagefor the game. This will be an interesting inclusion in this 3D iteration as well and could lead to some super-memorable moments.

Super Meat Boy 3D is currently slated to release some time in early 2026, and it’s coming to more consoles despite being shown off by Xbox first. Look for this one on PS5 and PC as well. Super Meat Boy 3D looks extremely promising for any fan of an old-school 3D platformer that’s not afraid of some added challenge.
