Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen in Arrow

While he already utilized his professional wrestling background with the Starz seriesHeels, he has bigger ambitions for his career. Once in an interview, he expressed his appreciation for legendary Hollywood directors like Steven Spielberg, and Quentin Tarantino.

Moreover, he noted that he would love to work with them on projects. Incidentally, even some major A-list actors haven’t had the chance to work with them yet. So it’ll be interesting to see if he manages to pull it off by some stroke of luck.

Stephen Amell wants to work with legendary Hollywood directors

In an interview ahead of Australia’s Supanova Comic Con & Gaming Convention in 2023,Stephen Amellsat down withThe AU Reviewfor an interview. During that, Amell spoke at length about how he got the part for the famous CW showArrow.

According to him, his cousin Robbie Amell was supposed to audition for the role initially. However, while his cousin was excited to do just that, he felt Stephen Amell would be better suited for the role.

He told me that he was going for this pilot, but he didn’t know if he should because he thought it should be me.  Then, like, an hour later my manager emails me with an Arrow audition.

Amell also explained in the interview where he would like to see his career go moving forward. According to theHungstar, he has always been a massive fan of Paul Thomas Anderson and he’d love to work with the director at some point. Moreover, like many others, he would jump at the chance to work withSteven Spielberg, and Quentin Tarantino if an opportunity ever presents itself.

I think I just want to do feature films.  I’m a massive Paul Thomas Anderson fan, so I’d love to work for PTA, or Tarantino, or Spielberg.  Directors that I admire deeply.

Admittedly it is quite hard to attract the attention of those directors. Especially when major A-listers, too, have a tough time collaborating with them for movies. For example,Denzel Washingtonis yet to work with either Spielberg or Tarantino. Meanwhile,Margot Robbiehas worked with Tarantino forOnce Upon A Time…In Hollywood, her dream collaboration with Steven Spielberg has yet to materialize.

Moreover,Robert De NiroandAl Pacinonever had a chance to work with Spielberg, and neitherJennifer LawrencenorEthan Hawkehave collaborated withQuentin Tarantino. As such, even with Stephen Amell’sArrowandCode 8fame, the dream might be too far-fetched to be fulfilled for now.

Stephen Amell has been steadily progressing in his career

Stephen Amell stated to the outlet that while the show brought him massive success and fame, he is still at a stage wherehe can’t be really picky about his roles.

Although he and Robbie Amell made the much-acclaimed movieCode 8, it hasn’t opened doors for himlikeTitanicdid for Leonardo DiCaprio.

I think people think actors have a lot more autonomy over their careers than they actually do.  Like DiCaprio after Titanic? He had autonomy.  I didn’t know Arrow was going to come up.  I didn’t know Heels was going to come up.  I didn’t know Ninja Turtles was going to come up.  I’m here to do my best.  And it’s whatever is presented (for me).

On a positive note, though, a Netflix sequel for the movie was released last year which the audience seemed to enjoy. The 73%Rotten Tomatoesscore is a testament to that. While Stephen Amell is doing well for himself, there aren’t any big films lined up for him for now.

Although he remains hopeful that the next big opportunity might just be around the corner for him. Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see if he can manage to draw the eyes of his icons for his dream projects in the future.

Arrowis available to stream on Netflix.
