Adding him to your crew can give you an edge in your adventures across the stars. ThisShattered Spaceguide will walk you through exactly what you need to do, whether you’re new to recruiting companions or looking for specifics on the man himself.

How to Recruit Tane Salavea: An Introduction
Tane Salavea is one of the new companions introduced inShattered Space. His skills make him a valuable addition to your crew, especially if you’re focused on maximizing cargo space or stealthy combat.
Here’s a quick rundown of his abilities: Payloads (Tech), which boosts your ship’s cargo capacity by 10%; Pistol Certification (Combat), which increases his pistol damage by 10%; and Stealth (Physical), which makes him 25% harder to detect while sneaking.

He’s essentially a great jack-of-all-trades type of option for ship management and combat situations.
Starfield: How to Start Shattered Space
To recruit Tane, you’ll need to complete a quest called ‘Conflict in Conviction.’ It takes place in Dazra, the first major location you visit in the Va’ruun’kai system.
Once you complete the quest, Tane will be available to join your crew as a trusted companion. Let’s dive deeper into how you can finish the quest and get Tane on your side.

you may start ‘Conflict in Conviction’ soon after following our guide togain a Promised title and are inducted into House Va’ruun.
Step-by-Step Guide to Recruiting Tane Salavea
Since you’ve agreed to assist the three main noble houses of Va’ruun’kai, you must complete each of their questlines as part of theStarfieldDLC story. ‘Conflict in Conviction’ is the quest you need to complete for House Veth’aal.
You’ll start the quest by asking around about Vaeric at Herald’s Rest, a bar in Dazra.

You’ll talk to various NPCs here, and to progress, you’re technically supposed to pass a persuasion check with at least one of them. However, the game goes a bit easy on you as you’ll still end up speaking with Tane Salavea even if you fail all persuasion checks.
Next, you’ll be tasked with searching the northwest of Dazra for Vaeric. Follow the quest marker through the gate.

Once you’re through, the tracker’s ping will guide you to an abandoned camp where your next clue lies. The pacing of the tracker’s beeps depends on whether you’re facing the right direction or not, so follow the direction it beeps the fastest.
At the abandoned camp, you’ll need to examine several objects, after which Vortex Horrors will appear. Defeat them, and then speak with Tane again. He’ll investigate the area and point you in the direction of where Vaeric may have fled.

You’ll need to go to Irina’s Farm next, where you’ll gather more information from Irina herself. She’ll provide crucial details about Vaeric’s whereabouts, which will send you to the next point of interest: Apostate’s Refuge.
Once you arrive, search Vaeric’s room, interact with his computer, and take his log, after which the game will tell you to go back to Tane.
Making an Important Decision
After all of this hard work, you’ll finally encounter Vaeric himself. Here, you’ll have a critical choice to make.
You can either persuade Vaeric to surrender and return to House Veth’aal, spare him in exchange for a signet ring (as proof that he’s dead), or kill him and take the ring by force.
We won’t spoil the results of these choices, but there is a point where you’ll be able to kill both Vaeric and Tane. You definitely don’t want to do this as it’ll lock you out of recruiting Tane as a companion permanently.
Starfield Shattered Space: How To Earn The Armiger Promised Title
After you make your choice, finish the rest of the quest. Then, head back to Herald’s Rest, where you can finally recruit Tane. If he’s alive, he’ll join you regardless of your choice, but his dialogue will change depending on how you deal with Vaeric.
While this might seem like a lot of work, it’s a quest you’ll have to complete as part of the DLC’s main story progression. Leaving Tane alive to recruit as one of yourStarfieldcompanions is certainly worth the effort.
Now that you know how to complete ‘Conflict in Conviction,’ you may confidently hop into the game and get that ball rolling. For moreStarfieldguides on companions, missions, and everything in between, be sure to check out our latest tips!
