Starfieldis a polarising topic, some players love it while others have expressed disappointment with Bethesda’s space RPG. Some of Starfield’s core mechanics include resource gathering, base building and ship customisation.
The introduction of base building in Fallout 4 was immediately contentious, with Bethesda managing directorAshley Cheng saying“There’s a contingent of fans who hate it, and there’s a contingent of hardcore fans who absolutely adore it.”

If we look at Starfield’srarest achievements, we can start to see a pattern. The least-awarded achievements almost exclusively relate to resource-gathering and base-building.
The rarest achievement in Starfield is ‘Life Begets Life’, which is awarded for gathering 500 organic resources. A mere 1.3% of players have achieved this, on Steam. This is unsurprising as only 10% of planets on Starfield support organic life, making organic material more difficult to come across.

The second rarest achievement is ‘Shipping Magnate’, an achievement granted for connecting five outposts with cargo links. For those unfamiliar, cargo links connect outposts so you can transfer resources and materials between them. Only 2.3% of players have engaged with this mechanic enough to earn this achievement.
Another rare achievement is ‘Rock Collection’, the inorganic equivalent of ‘Life Begets Life’. As inorganic resources can be found on every planet, 7.4% of players were able to achieve this. Still, that’s quite low considering the abundance of these resources.

Starfield Winning Steam’s “Most Innovative” Award Has Absolutely Rattled Players
Some are speculating that Starfield’s most recent award is just one big troll by the community.
The other rarest achievements are ‘The Stars My Destination’ (visiting all star systems), ‘Reach For The Stars’ (reaching level 100), and ‘Fleet Commander’ (collect 10 ships). These require a lot of time to achieve, so that’s unsurprising.

It would appear from a holistic view of Starfield’s rarest achievements that more people were engaging with the narrative and quests of the game rather than building outposts and gathering resources. This isn’t surprising to me as it’s theapproach I took with the game.
