Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki spoke with Square Enix, asking them if the new content fromDragon Quest XI S on Switch will be coming to the other versions of the game as DLC. Square Enix answered that it is currently “Undecided”.
Personally, I think everything points at Square Enix never bringing the new content to other platforms. That’s purely my opinion as someone who has yet to master Japanese, but the choice of words makes me feel they have no plans to ever do it. Like Mochizuki pointed out, there’s also the fact that while the game is calledÂDragon Quest XI Sin Japan, Square Enix named itÂDragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition, in the west, and are treating it as an enhanced port like many JRPGs often get.
Nintendo struck gold with this, as many people in Japan alone will definitely double-dip and get the Switch version and might even get a Switch solely for it, seeing how huge of a cultural traditionÂDragon Questis in the Archipel. I’m personally happy about the Switch version being so complete, as someone who didn’t play the original game yet as I’d rather play otherDragon Questgames first to get all the references inDQ11.However, I do feel heavily for those who did buy the original game and already spend a massive amount of time on it, and probably don’t feel like investing time and money again, and who might even feel like they were tricked. Though it’s definitely not as bad as a case as things likeTales of Vesperia’s unfinished Xbox 360’s version. And while I obviously don’t mean to blame anyone, an enhanced port was very likely as the original Japanese PS4 version had no voices, because of Yuji Horii wanting to polish the script until the last minute.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Editionwas announced in the west for this fallduring the latest Nintendo Direct.
