There’s no denying the fact thatWarhammer 40k: Space Marine 2is one of the biggest games of 2024. Right on arrival, the game managed to set a new record for the franchise and developer Saber Interactive.

WhileSpace Marine 2‘s gameplay is quite addictive, the opinions over its difficulty levels have been heated. A few months ago, few in the community bashed Saber for crafting an absolute nightmare to complete. Now that the developers have toned down the difficulty level, gamers believe Saber has made a bad call.
Space Marine 2Community Can’t Understand What it Wants
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, as well as the entireWarhammer 40kfranchise, is known for its spectacular battles. In theSpace Marinesequel, the combat itself is pretty brutal, with blood everywhere. Fights are the essence of this production. To honor the franchise’s legacy, Saber made some bold development choices and spiced up the challenge in the game.

On its debut,Space Marine 2was met with intense praise from critics and fans alike. However, few in the community felt that Saber had made a major mistake byincreasing the game’s difficultyby weakening Space Marines instead of bringing more or tougher enemies to the table. This approach forced gamers to make a hard choice between a challenge or power fantasy instead of experiencing both.
Last week, patch 4.0 forSpace Marine 2brought us a Lethal difficult mode alongside a brand-new Operations Map. The update created a new modifier that forced players to hang on to each other or get absolutely wrecked.

By increasing the number of enemies to boost hardcore difficulty, Saber ended up making lower difficulties even tougher. On top of everything, we also received a series of unpopular nerfs.
The patch caused a massive backlash and eventually caught Saber’s attention. The studio brought an emergency patch and reverted the changes to make the game much easier to adventure through. This should’ve been a victory for theSpace Marine 2fanbase.

However, the community’s frustrations seem to have no end. With last week’s 4.0 update, we also got a new Survivor’s helm, which was directly tied to the end of the Lehtal difficulty. When Saber scaled back the game’s difficulty and, with it, the requirements to get Survivor’s helm, it caused another uproar as players who acquired the item under the original requirements felt cheated.
While the changes might be unfair to players who unlocked Survivor’s helm, it’s high time for theSpace Marine 2community to pick one side and stick to it. Constantly bashing the developers for making changes and then forcing them to revert all of it causes a massive headache for Saber andwill ultimately affect the game’s roadmap.

Space Marine 2is Soon Getting Test Servers
The recent noise and drama regarding the 4.0 patch have certainly caused the fandom’s tempers to rise, with players still venting their frustrations and the neglect of player feedback by Saber.
Space Marine 2director Dmitry Grigorenko, a few days ago, announced the arrival of the emergency patch for the game via patch notes on the Space Marine subreddit and a statement thanking players for their support.

Grigorenko also revealed that the game will soon get a public test server in the future to prevent major outrages like the one that occurred in the last couple of days from occurring at all.
The game director claims that the test servers will allow players to experience various balancing updates and make their voices heard before they go global. These servers will be brought at some point in early 2025.
It’s great to see that Saber is actively listening to the player base and bringing necessary additions to the game. Let’s hope they can keep this momentum going and makeSpace Marine 2a generational game.
With that said, do you think Saber still needs to tweak difficulty levels inSpace Marine 2? If so, let us know in the comments below.
