Solo Levelingfollows the story of Sung Jinwoo, who is introduced as the weakest hunter because of his low-rank status as an E-rank hunter.

While Sung Jinwoo’s quest to become the strongest, despite starting as the weakest hunter, is truly inspiring, many fans believe our beloved MC could set a standard that even Luffy and Naruto may struggle to reach.

Apart from fans, Sung Jinwoo’s VA has also supported this statement and truly believes the weakest E-rank hunter can surpass fan favorites Luffy and Naruto. In aninterview, Taito Ban, the Japanese voice actor behind Sung Jinwoo, shared his excitement for Season 2 and how he stuck a chord amongst anime audiences. He said:
Fans can resonate with the position Jinwoo is in. Plus, the one thing that never changes about Jinwoo is that he never gives up. I think what’s really appealing about him is how he tackles things so frantically yet in a down-to-earth way. I think that’s what’s good about him as a character.

Unlike most isekai anime that follows a protagonist’s journey in a completely new world,Solo Levelingintroduces groundbreaking concepts like dungeons and monsters within the main character’s own world.
While the story premise may start with Sung Jinwoo as the weakest hunter of mankind, by the final chapter, he achieves godly status as the strongest hunter who saves the world from extinction from an unknown threat.

Unlike Naruto and Luffy, Sung Jinwoo didn’t have any godly power up his sleeve—he was just an ordinary human who happened to unlock the status of a hunter. It was not until Shadow Monarch saw Sung Jinwoo’s selfless nature to continuously put his life as risk for the welfare of his family.
After being impressed by Jinwoo’s selfless nature, Ashborn, the previous Shadow Monarch, selected him as his successor, as he knew that Jinwoo would never quit fighting for his family, no matter how high the odds were stacked against him. Sung Jinwoo’s determination to protect his family and loved ones goes beyond Naruto and Luffy’s drive to become the greatest.
