As a power-fantasy series, the heart and soul ofSolo Levelingis its main character, Sung Jinwoo. His ability to get stronger without any limitations was the hook and kept fans reading the manhwa until the end. It was intriguing to find out where the powering up stops and what lies beyond it. The ending hit fans with a surprise attack as Sung Jinwoo reversed everything.

Fans were critical of how all of it meant nothing in the end. But, it was the only way to redeem the character after his morally gray character arc throughout the series. It was a great way to bring a close to his story without disregarding his initial motivations.
The Decision That Turned Sung Jinwoo into a Morally Gray Character
At the beginning ofSolo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo simply wanted to provide for his family. He was weak but brave and headstrong. He stuck to what he believed was right while doing whatever he could for his family. The system presented a way for him to do that easily. However, it also exposed him to the greed of the stronger hunters who callously sacrificed human lives for their own gains.
During the raid with Hwang Dongsuk, Jinwoo made a conscious decision to kill humans to protect Jinho and himself. The animedid a brilliant job of fleshing out the conflict he faced at that moment. He knew that the atrocities he was going to commit couldn’t be undone, but he still chose to move ahead for his own interests. After that, he makes many decisions that are morally gray.

He always prioritised his family and their well-being over everything. Anything else was simply not his business as we saw how he decided to not participate in the Jeju Island raid until things got horribly wrong. He made some questionable decisions in order to level up as well.
Here’s How the Ending ofSolo LevelingRedeemed JinWoo
The manhwa ending initially made fans furious for its rushed execution. However, it made sense for Jinwoo’s journey. The choice he made at the end allowed him to undo everything and save countless lives. However, it also undid the bonds he had forged. The reason why this ending was the best is because it redeemed JinWoo. It showed the kindness of his heart. He deeply cared about those close to him and chose to fight alone to prevent the tragedy and loss of human lives.
A-1 Studios Cannot Afford to Waste Solo Leveling’s Most Underused Character After the Manhwa Reduced Her to a Love Interest
This decision proved to us that even though Jinwoo made some questionable decisions, he was a good person. At last, he chose what was best for the greater good setting aside what could have proved more beneficial for him personally. Moreover, it needs to be noted that Jinwoo had limitless powers. He could take on anyone and still win easily.
Those with significantly lesser powers than him exploited others for their own good. Jinwoo, with all his powers, only used them in necessary circumstances. He fumbled a few times but he handled everything better than most people in his world would. And chose to use it in the best way possible by fighting the war alone. While the ending might not have been to many fans’ liking, it was probably the best-case scenario.

Solo Leveling Animeis available to stream on Crunchyroll and the manhwa can be read on Tapas.
