As much as I love The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, there’s no denying that it’s rough around the edges today. The formerly impressive world of Tamriel doesn’t look as impressive today, and the gameplay is every ounce as outdated as you’d expect from a 20-year-old game.
That’s one thing that had me interested in Skyblivion, the upcoming mod that rebuilds Oblivion withinThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

New Oblivion Remastered Players Are Learning Being A Vampire Sucks, Literally
One player reminds people that being a vampire is NOT a cheat code.
For a while, this was going to be the only way to play Oblivion with modern updates. That was until theshadowdropped releaseofElder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Developed byBethesda Game Studiosand Virtuos, the remaster brings some much-needed improvements to the game.

It’s not just shiny new graphics; the leveling system has been overhauled, there’s new voice acting, and the gameplay feels far more modern. Still, at its core, this is a 20-year-old game, and that’s why the development team forSkyblivionremains optimistic that their mod can co-exist alongside the remaster.
Skyblivion Includes Content Originally Cut From Oblivion, Reimagined Unique Weapons, and More
The Skyblivion team released a newdevelopment diary, indicating that the team is in the final stretch towards its 2025 release.
Right off the bat, the team addresses a common question that’s popped up: “What is the point of Skyblivion if the official remaster is already released?”

“The answer is simple,” they say. “Skyblivion is a full-scale remake that reimagines Oblivion from the ground up, bringing it in line with modern RPG standards.” While the team admits that the team handling the official remaster did a good job, they’re going above and beyond for Skyblivion, introducing new dungeons, cities, gameplay enhancements, and more.
Bethesda Asked Oblivion Remastered Players How To Improve The Game And Got More Than They Bargained For
People have LOTS of ideas to improve the game.
One new such city is Sutch, which was cut from the original Oblivion before release. The team has also remianged every item inOblivion; they weren’t happy that most unique items were unique in name only. They’ve now not only remade each unique item to look unique, but also have custom attacks.
An exact release date isn’t available at this time, but the team remains confident that Skyblivion will release later this year.
