Fans of theSilent Hillhave been anxiously awaiting a new game in the horror franchise, but every time it seems like it’s going to happen, publisherKonami breaks our hearts. Ever since Konami parted ways with Hideo Kojima and cancelledÂP.T.Â(otherwise discovered to beÂSilent Hills), there has been a thirst by the dedicated horror community. The Konami PR team’s accidental tease of a new project doesn’t seem viable, but it may still point to a project in the works. But first, let’s get to the PR blunder. A couple days ago, the official Konami account tweeted out a short and mysterious message. “Close your eyes. Always scary. Silent Hill 2 Siren.” There is a black accompanying video with the haunting sound effect ringing through:

And if anyone has been following gaming media, you would assume this is a tease for a project… right? Developers, publishers, and PR are only really that vague when they are looking to build hype.

Well… apparently that isn’t so. Hours later, the Konami PR train had to peddle back the message, saying that anything official would come from the @SilentHill Twitter account:

But here’s the catch – what’s up with theÂSilent HillÂofficial account. According to Twitter, the account has been active as of July 2020 with Tweets as late as July 9th. It’s inconceivable that someone else didn’t have the Twitter handle before Konami, so they likely had to petition Twitter for a takeover of the username. But why all the effort? Is this a key clue that the Konami team is ramping up a PR strategy – similar to the unannouncedFableÂTwitter handle that appearedahead of the Xbox Games Showcase.

Honestly, a lot of this is pure speculation, so take it with a grain of salt. And who knows, this can all be to promote the newÂDead by DaylightÂintegration. Your guess is as good as ours.

More recently, rumors have started to surface that Sony Japan will be rebootingSilent Hill. According to claims by the leakerDusk Golemn, the game has been in development for two years and the reboot will make the newSilent Hillapproachable to a new audience that may be unfamiliar with the classic series. Dusk Golemn went on to say it would also be accompanied by an episodic adventure similar toUntil Dawn.

Little is known about what is happening with theÂSilent HillsÂfranchise, but keep your eyes on DualShockers for more information as it is revealed.
