Jessica Barden Officially Joins House Harkonnen InDune: Prophecy
Varietyreported the casting of Jessica Barden as young Valya Harkonnen, which the character has been described as, “Ambitious, stubborn and forceful.” The description continued:
“Young Valya Harkonnen dreams of restoring her family’s noble status. When a tragedy shatters her plans for the future, she finds herself on a new path that leads to the Sisterhood.”

The prequel series official logline claims thatDune: Prophecy“follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit” This will occur “10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides.”
Original showrunner Johan Renck worked with the series, but the project seemed to have been experiencing so much turbulence at the time. It changed showrunners a couple of times before Renck took over and left in the end. He shared viaThe Playlist:

“I was fiddling with that for a moment, but yeah, I’m not involved in that at all. At least, I think—I might still be an executive producer on it, but I’m not involved in it now.”
It’s a shame that he’s no longer attached to the series given how massive the franchise ofDenis Villeneuve’sDunehas become. Still, Renck thinks it happens a lot in the industry.
