Creator Robin’s Nest took a spin onResident Evil Village’s beloved Lady Dimitrescu, recreating her intro cutscene in a retro 2.5D animation style.
Capcom’sResident Evil Villagemay have come out in 2021, but its iconic characters have kept players coming back time and time again. Of course, there was one character in particular that took the internet by storm: Countess Alcina Dimitrescu, more widely known as Lady Dimitrescu.

Chillingly intimidating, Lady Dimitrescu’s introductory scene marked one of the most memorable moments fromResident Evil Village. Of course, with a menacing stature and a voice laced with evil, who could forget Castle Dimitrescu’s matron?
Following a moment of inspiration, oneResident Evil Villagefan recreated the Lady Dimitrescu introductory cutscene in 2.5D animation, adding a retro flair to the modern horror game.

ROBIN’S NEST’SRESIDENT EVIL VILLAGELADY DIMITRESCU ANIMATION
Creator Robin’s Nest (u/the-robins-nest on Reddit) first shared their 2.5D animation work on ther/ResidentEvil subreddit. 2.5D animation is a particularly interesting style that melds 3D with 2D work. Usually, this involves placing 2D characters within a 3D world, or vice versa. It creates a special effect that adds depth to otherwise 2D objects, playing off of the contrast between the different dimensions.
In Robin’s Nest’sResident Evilanimation, they recreated each character in a 2D pixel art style. The animation shows the game’s protagonist, Ethan Winters, getting accosted by Lady Dimitrescu’s three daughters - Bela, Daniela, and Cassandra. Then, insects cloud the screen as Ethan is hooked and dragged through Castle Dimitrescu. Following a swarm of giggles from the sisters, the animation continues to play through Lady Dimitrescu’s grand entrance.
Though the pixel art style of this animation doesn’t give it quite the same flavor of horror, it adds a wickedly fun sense of nostalgia. You still feel just how expansive Castle Dimitrescu is, as well as how truly intimidating Lady D is herself. The artist’s ability to translate a first-person horror game into a retro-style third-person perspective is a testament to their artistic ability.
