While we already know thata Resident Evil movie is in development by Barbarian director Zach Cregger, no actual plot info has been shared by Capcom or the director so far.
Thankfully, there are other sources of info that can shed some light on the matter, and the latest one is something Resident Evil fans might like.

A Survival Horror Icon Is Back From The Dead (Again) As An Arcade Game
Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot is currently undergoing location tests at certain arcades in the UK.
Before digging in, please remember that the information you’re about to read is not official and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Resident Evil Movie Details Leak And It’ll Stay Faithful To The Games
There are still many unanswered questions regarding Cregger’s Resident Evil movie. While it won’t be connected to the Milla Jovovich series of films (thankfully), we also don’t know whether it’ll be canon to the entire lore of the franchise.
The plot details, at the very least, suggest that the film acknowledges the games, which is a positive sign.

The leak comes from reliable film leaker DanielRPK, who posted the plot synopsis on theirPatreon(viaComicbook).
“Bryan (Austin Abrams), a laid-back organ courier, is sent on a late-night delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital,” reads the synopsis. “En route through a snowy mountain road, he accidentally hits a strange woman with his car. She survives—but something is very wrong. As he tries to help, Bryan stumbles into a full-blown outbreak involving horrifying tentacle-based mutations and bio-engineered monstrosities.”

Capcom Considers All Resident Evils Canon According To Leaker (Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense)
A notable Capcom leaker has confirmed that the company considers all of the Resident Evil games canon, even though it doesn’t make sense.
If you factor in the franchise’s multi-game story, it seems the movie adaptation will fall somewhere betweenResident Evil 2andRE3. Given that Raccoon City is still standing and operational, but experiencing a full-blown outbreak, the film’s protagonist might have reached the zombie-infested city during both games' time periods, since they run parallel to each other.

In case you haven’t played both games, here’s your chance to turn away, as this discussion deals with some heavy spoilers; however, given the age of the games, chances are you already know them. At the end of the game, a massive bomb is dropped on Raccoon City to eradicate all the zombies and whatever creatures are still alive.
Of course, the movie can somehow fail to connect to the games at all outside of the setting, enemies, and so on, which leaves the door wide open to the director’s whims.
In other Resident Evil news, the game’s latest entry has been announced, and it’s Resident Evil Requiem. While the reveal trailer shows us the game’s protagonist is a new face in Grace Ashcroft, rumors have persistedregarding Leon Kennedy’s involvement - something Capcom went out of their way to explain why Leon isn’t a good fit to be a Resident Evil protagonist, which is strange since Leon has been the central character in at least three mainline Resident Evil entries.
Given Requiem is set for a February 2026 release, chances are high that we’ll be seeing a lot more of the game before the year is over, which should shut down the Leon rumors, or prove they’re the real deal.
The Resident Evil movieis set for release in September 2026, though, much like games, don’t be surprised if it gets delayed.
Resident Evil Requiem Will Have First And Third Person Options
DualShockers has confirmed via a Capcom preview that Resident Evil Requiem will feature both first and third-person viewpoints for its characters.
