A reliable insider for all thingsResident Evilhas claimed that the next entry in the series will be revealed “pretty soon,” along with an early 2025 release date.
Over on X(formerly Twitter), leaker and Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem revealed some fresh details on what is expected to be Resident Evil 9. “I have good news/rumors to deliver on Resident Evil 9,” the leaker said. “[Resident Evil 9] should be revealed pretty soon and released next year. If what I heard previously holds true, should be in January.”

A potential reveal and early 2025 release date is big news for Resident Evil fans, but Dusk Golem also revealed some other vital pieces of information regarding the next game in the series. The leaker explained that Resident Evil 9 will have had seven years of development time, which is a rather monumental amount of time for a Resident Evil game.
To clear things up, the leaker explained that Resident Evil 9 started development in 2018 and was originally planned as Resident Evil 8, which we now know to be 2021’s Resident Evil Village. If the leaker is to be believed, Resident Evil 8 and 9 were in development at the same time, as Capcom couldn’t decide if Resident Evil 8 was going to be a mainline entry in the series or a spin-off.
Dusk Golem then went on to state that “another batch” of Resident Evil games were recently greenlit, which could mean multiple titles are currently being worked on. They then claimed that the upcoming Resident Evil 9 has “the biggest budget and longest dev time of any Resident Evil game to date.”
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Capcom is continuing to go full steam ahead with the Resident Evil series. The most recent remake ofResident Evil 4 surpassed 7 million units soldin December 2023, whileResident Evil Village reached 8 million sold unitslast year.
