While the nextResident Evilentry that is set to release will be that of the remake ofResident Evil 3later this year, it seems some new information regarding the next numbered installment in the franchise, that ofResident Evil 8, has started to come about.

According to a new report fromResidence of Evil, a YouTube channel dedicated to all thingsRE,Resident Evil 8is said to be a game that will take place from the first-person perspective. The game is also said to once again place you in the shoes of Ethan Winters, the protagonist fromResident Evil 7. Chris Redfield is also said to somehow be involved withRE8in addition to some new locations that would include a castle, new baddies such as werewolves, and the return of actual zombies instead of the mold-based foes fromRE7.

The only problem with this report is that it doesn’t seem to come from a source that has much credibility. All of the above information stems from a general tip email that wqas sent toBiohazard Cast, a website that coversResident Evil. Because of this, it’s hard to fully believe what is being said here.

That said,Eurogamerhas since come forward with its own report on the matter and has stated thatResident Evil 8will, at the very least, once again be a first-person title. This information comes from sources close to Capcom that has seemingly spoken to Eurogamer aboutRE8. Considering the outlet’s pedigree for reporting on rumors in the past, it seems like a good chance that this portion of the “leak” is credible.

Personally, I really love the idea ofRE8being a first-person game. While I know some fans didn’t love it,RE7’sperspective change was one of the reasons as to why that game succeeded in the way that it did. I’d love to see Capcom continue to evolve on the ideas it introduced inResident Evil 7. Besides, I’m still getting my third-person itch scratched from this series when it comes to the remakes of bothRE2andRE3that have come about.

It’ll likely be awhile until we hear more officially from Capcom regardingResident Evil 8, but the game is almost certainly in development and will likely land on next-gen platforms withPS5 and Xbox Series X. Until then,Resident Evil 3is set to arrive in just a few short months on June 26, 2025, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
