New rumours suggest thatCapcomis gearing up to release a remake of the originalResident Evil. With a 2026 release window reportedly being targeted, this would also mark the 30th anniversary of the franchise and would be a fitting year to remake this iconic horror game.
The news comes from YouTuberBiohazard Declassified, who claims to have received an email from an old contact with knowledge of the potential remake. They claim to have known about the Resident Evil 1 remake since early 2023, but decided to sit on the information until a later date.

The Bounds VR Takes Atmospheric Horror Inspiration From Silent Hill And Resident Evil
The Bounds VR seems to be one to look out for if you enjoy the Silent Hill And Resident Evil classic horror genre.
In the YouTuber’s latest video, they detail everything they were told by their source surrounding the potential remake of Resident Evil 1. “It will be slower paced, like the Resident Evil 2 Remake,” the YouTuber said. They noted that Resident Evil 2 Remake perfectly captured the dark, gritty aesthetic of the original, and that Capcom is likely using that as a baseline for a remake of Resident Evil 1.

They then moved on to the next bit of information, claiming that each zombie will have “their own unique model due to the small number of enemies within the game.” It looks like this rumoured remake could be staying true to the original with much less enemies, but they will also reportedly be “bullet sponges,” being able to take more damage than usual. Again, this is similar to 2019’s remake of Resident Evil 2.
The YouTuber goes on to note a plethora of other details surrounding the alleged remake, such as the return of the Crimson Head enemy type, further explanation of the original game’s lore, and the use of third-person camera. As with all leaks, we recommend you take these details with a pinch of salt. After all, it was only earlier this month that a separate leaker claimed that Capcom wasgearing up to reveal Resident Evil 9 “pretty soon.“But, with Capcom’s current system of releasing a new Resident Evil every now and then between remakes, a 2026 remake of Resident Evil 1 would make sense.
