The Bounty Hunter is a temporary Hero inDarkest Dungeon 2. Unlike other Heroes, he can’t be selected from the crossroads, but instead he is recruitedat the game’s invaluable Inns. He only follows your party for one region, and can’t be recruited twice.

He also won’t help with any run bosses except the first. He’s a strong character you can recruit if your run is going poorly and needs a boost. Being the professional fighter he is, none of the Bounty Hunter’s skills need upgrading, and they’re unlocked via the Altar of Hope rather than Hero Shrines. Here’s how his wide variety of powerful skills stack up.

11Caltrops
The Caltrops skill is one of the Bounty Hunter’s weaker moves. You can use it as a ranged attack to hit the enemy back line with a Bleed attack. The Bleed is reasonably strong, at three points a turn, but not the skill’s major selling point.
Caltrops' value comes from the debuffs it inflicts. It lowers enemy resistances to attacks that would move them, and drops their speed by two. Use it on those foes that have a strong attack coming, so you can delay that strike and manage the battle better. There are better ways of doing this, though, which leaves Caltrops potent but rather situational.
10Bodyguard
Bodyguard is a simple Guard maneuver. The Bounty Hunter gains tokens for blocks and will Guard your chosen ally against two attacks. This skill is a good way of preventing damage to your team, since the Bounty Hunter can absorb some punishment quite well.
He isn’t a dedicated tank character (unlikethe damage-soaking Leperfor instance), keep in mind, and his offense is his best feature. Guard an ally if they are injured, but the fight will end faster if you make use of the Bounty Hunter’s high damage. Again, other party members' own Guard abilities may be more suitable.
9Come Hither
Come Hither is a setup move for the Bounty Hunter and his team, with a small amount of damage attached too. While the move only deals two to four points of damage, you can use it to pull either of the back two enemies forward two spaces, Marking them for death at the same time.
Darkest Dungeon 2: Best Vestal Skills Ranked
From Divine Comfort to Sanctuary, these are some of the best skills to equip your Vestal with in Darkest Dungeon 2.
This is great for ranged enemies that can’t do much upfront, and also helps you take them out swiftly with a strong attack. The Mark makes sure they don’t get to retreat. You need to have an effective follow-up prepared, though, so the timing can let this one down a little bit.
8Staredown
Staredown is a skill you can use to deal with high-damage enemies. When the Bounty Hunter uses Staredown on a target, it goads the enemy team into attacking that foe for at least their next two attacks. It’s a decent cleanse for the purpose as well, removing any Vulnerability tokens applied to the Bounty Hunter.
On top of all this, the target you chose gains two Weaken tokens, cutting the strength of their next two attacks in half. Staredown lets the Bounty Hunter dabble in tanking. It’s an unusual choice, though, for a character that is best employed dealing heavy damage himself.

7Mark For Death
Mark for death is a quick way for the Bounty Hunter to lay down a Mark on your chosen target. Not only does it Mark, it also applies two tokens of Vulnerability, increasing the damage enemies take by an additional 50 percent. He can also use this ability in any rank and target any enemy.
This move would be worth using for just one of its two effects; the fact that it does both is a single move can be a great use of a Bounty Hunter’s turn.
Hurlbat is the Bounty Hunter’s highest damage ranged skill. It deals a solid six to ten points of damage before any modifiers, and has a decent chance to crit on top of this. Against Marked targets, Hurlbat circumvents Dodge tokens to ensure it hits, which is invaluable against agile enemies.
It also deals an additional 50 percent damage against enemies that are Burning. The Bounty Hunter, however, has no way of inflicting a Burn of his own, so this can be difficult to take advantage of. Even considering this, though, Hurlbat is just a very solid skill.
The Bounty Hunter packs a mean punch. Uppercut lets him strike an enemy in the face for low damage. The best part of the move isn’t the power alone, though, it’s easily the Stun. Stunning enemies without any setup required is a rare feat in Darkest Dungeon 2.
Darkest Dungeon 2: 10 Tips & Tricks For Beginners
If you’re just starting out on Darkest Dungeon 2, you’ll need to know a few key tips and tricks to help you survive.
Doing so also sets up a few of the Bounty Hunter’s other moves, boosting their damage and offering other positive effects. Uppercut also causes the targeted foe to be knocked back one rank, unless they resist the Move. The only thing that holds Uppercut back is the fact that there’s a two-turn cooldown on it, which is reflective of how very strong it is.
4No Escape
No Escape is a move you use against annoying ranged enemies that are piling damage or debuffs on your heroes. The Bounty Hunter has to be in the back two ranks to use it, and can only target those same ranks on the enemy side. The attack only deals a little damage, but it ignores Dodge tokens, so its main use can get through.
In addition to Marking your target, No Escape is one of the few abilities in the game that can deal a Stun outright. As a result, just as with Uppercut, the skill has a two turn cooldown.
3Finish Him
Finish Him is, as you’d expect, the Bounty Hunter’s finishing move. It’s a melee skill, dealing anywhere from six to ten damage. These numbers aren’t bad, but don’t make the skill something you’d switch his main attack for. Against dazed and Stunned targets, however, Finish Him gets a huge 75 percent damage boost.
It also pierces any Block tokens the enemy has set up, so you can be sure to get your full damage from this skill. Against enemies on Death’s Door, it ignores 20 percent of their Death Blow Resistance, so you’re more likely to ensure they’re out of the fight.
2Collect Bounty
Collect Bounty is the Bounty Hunter’s standard melee attack, and it cuts deep. Dealing eight to 12 damage in a single swing, its output surpasses that of many other Heroes over a single turn. Against Marked targets, it increases its damage by 50 percent.
While it can only attack the enemy’s front two ranks, the Bounty Hunter can hit hard with it all the way back in rank three, ensuring your other front liners can still access their better attacks. Reliable damage is never a waste, and the fact that this move deals so much is a boon. It’s one of thebest offensive skills in the gamefor its consistency and the size of the potential buff.
