In October last year, TeamKill Media, the studio most known for its sci-fi horror gameQuantum Erroron PS5, released a first-person shooter where a sheriff takes down dinosaurs (?!) titled “Son and Bone.”
Unfortunately, the game didn’t sell well, and onSteam, it shows a paltry four user reviews. While some might say this lack of user reviews is indicative of the game’s quality, TeamKill has another reason for that, and it’s video game pirates.

TeamKill Compares Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s PC Release To Their Games
Over onTwitter/X, TeamKill Media talked about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC and what’s happening with it is akin to what Son and Bones experienced when it was released on PC via the Epic Games Store first, and then followed on Steam.
TeamKill states, “What is happening right now with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC is exactly what we have experienced even though we are a small studio. It happened on the first day of our very first game released years ago, Kings of Lorn.”

The message even referenced the low player count on Steam, since some people have been heckling the studio about it on social media.
“So, for the ones who have accused our game Son and Bone of having low player counts on Steam… go search “son and bone torrent” on google… and you will see why. We released Son and Bone on the EGS first before Steam and it was instantly pirated… on both games we have released on PC, the result is low player counts and loss of revenue. In addition to not wanting p*rnographic mods of our games, we can’t devote time and resources into something that will be pirated and given away for free,” mentions TeamKill.

9 Indie Game Flops That Deserve A Second Chance
Just off the beaten path, these nine indie games are ready for their redemption arc.
If you’re wondering what the studio was referring to in terms of pornographic material, it’s due to their upcoming PS5 game Code Violet, and how they don’t want to release it on PC, sincethey don’t want players releasing vulgar mods for it.

While I agree that piracy is a very big issue on PC, usually a good game sells regardless of it. I haven’t played Son and Bones, and I could be wrong, but given the lack of fanfare around it, and the lack of any critical reviews available online, I surmise those played a bigger factor in its sales than piracy.
If it’s any consolation for TeamKill, the scant user reviewsfor the game do have good things to say about it.

If you’re thinking of picking it up, the official description reads, “Son and Bone is a fast-paced first-person shooter where you take on the role of Sam Judge, a Sheriff, that after tracking down a notorious bandit who attacked a farm and kidnapped a local, has found himself on an alien world overrun by prehistoric creatures and dinosaurs.”
