As it turns out, the sky for each player inMajora’s Maskis a customized one because the position of stars is apparently different for every player. This surprising secret was recently uncovered by a programmer after almost two decades of the game’s release.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Maskwas released in the year 2000. The action-adventure game was developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 home console. It is the sixth main installment inThe Legend of Zeldaseries.Majora’s Maskis the sequel to the first 3D Zelda game,Ocarina of Time.
The Position Of Stars In Majora’s Mask Sky
A programmer and 3D artist who goes by the username Zel took to Twitter to reveal a secret he uncovered by the classic gameThe Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
He found that the position of the stars in the sky is random for each player. But the surprising part is that the positioning of stars is based on the player’s save file name. He shared a screenshot of the piece of code showing how the 8 characters of the file name are used to create random positioning of the stars.
So The Sky Is Personalized For Each Player
What the piece of code shown above means is that every player inMajora’s Maskgets their own customized sky with random constellations in it.
One might wonder why the game developers decided to go for random constellations instead of a set skybox. As of now, there is no confirmed explanation behind their intent. But if it was randomness that they were aiming for (which is harder to obtain in older games) then using the characters of the filename seems like a viable option back then.
One player asked how many star arrangements could be achieved inMajora’s Mask— and the guesstimated figure turned out to be pretty big!
Other Twitteratis wondered if this is still applicable to the 3DS remake of the classic game. Sadly, it seems like this feature didn’t make it to the 3DS version which was released in 2015.
