Yesterday, the official Pokemon account on Twitterteased an impending announcementregarding a mysterious Pokemon that appeared glitched out onPokemon Sword and Shield’swebsite. Today, The Pokemon Company not only confirmed that this new Pokemon is a Farfetch’d evolution called Sirfetch’d, but that it will only be inPokemon Swordand will have an exclusive move called Meteor Assault.

Version exclusive Pokemon like Sirfetch’d have been a staple of the series since its inception, but before today we only knew about theversion exclusive gyms. To obtain Sirfetch’d, players will have to capture a Farfetch’d in the Galar region and evolve it through unspecified means outside of “experiencing many battles.” This new Pokemon does look somewhat similar to its pre-evolution, though it is now mostly white and wields an even larger leek.  The stalk of the leek serves as a lance while the leaves are used as a shield.

In-universe, Sirfetch’d is categorized as the Wild Duck Pokemon, just like Farfetch’d. Apparently, “they are calm and collected, and they make a point of always battling fairly. They are so noble in battle that they are often chosen as a motif for paintings. Of particular note is a painting—famous in the Galar region—that depicts a duel between a Sirfetch’d and an Escavalier.” As for the aforementioned leek gear, Sirfetch’d “maintains this leek over the span of many years and treasures it more than anything. When its leek finally withers, Sirfetch’d will leave the battlefield and retire from battling entirely.”

Players probably won’t have to worry about that in-game though, and probably care more about its ability and moves. With the ability Steadfast, Sirfetch’d speed will increase when it has flinched. Its new move Meteor Assault is a powerful attack that has Sirfetch’d ramming into other Pokemon with its leek lance, though it does have to rest after using it.
