The world ofPokemon Goreflects real life a lot closer than anyone realized, as players discover that a strange installation from the Netherlands appears in the game.
Pokemon Go’s overworld isbased on Earth, but only in superficial ways. Things like bodies of water, streets, buildings, and fields are represented, but the differences between them are scant.

Those who have traveled while playing Pokemon Go can attest to how most cities look identical in the mobile game. The main difference is that capital cities and tourist spots tend tohave more PokeStopsthan other areas.
Niantic Comes Under Fire For Charging Pokemon GO Players Differently for Same Items
Niantic has responded to the fact that it has charged Pokemon GO players different prices for a Lure Module Box in the game’s store.
It turns out that Pokemon Go does feature some elements of the real world that stand out from the bland green and grey plains.

A user on the Pokemon Go Reddit has reported seeing an installation from Ultrech Centraal Station in the Netherlands appear in their game.
Pokemon Go Features Real Artwork That Looks Like Bubble Wrap
The place in question can be found in Noordgebouw. Referred to informally as the “Honeycomb”, it contains transparent air cushions held on seven pillars, resembling bubble wrap spread across the top of the structure.
The bubble wrap comparison is what drew the attention ofPokemon Go fans, as it looks like a sheet of popping plastic has been spread across a small part of the game world.

Pokemon Go Can Now Connect To Pokemon Scarlet And Violet
Postcards sent to Scarlet and Violet let players catch unique Vivillon while Go players can embark on the quest to catch Gholdengo.
“Looks like bubble wrap i wanna pop it,” one user wrote, while another said, “This is amazing! I hope it becomes a feature worldwide to show monuments, it would help with navigating the map.”

While it’s easy to think that someone at Niantic has a soft spot for artwork from the Netherlands, it’s more likely that this installation’s appearance is due to it appearing on Open Street Map, which is the base for Pokemon Go’s overworld.
“I caught my shiny Trubbish sitting under this in Utrecht! Good memories.”

It’s a shame that instances of real-life architecture appearing in Pokemon Go are so rare. While the game has had some significant upgrades to its visuals (including the controversial avatar changes in 2024), it feels like the overworld barely gets touched.
As time goes on, hopefully, Niantic will push toinclude more physical landmarksin the Pokemon Go world, even if it’s just the more notable ones, like the Eiffel Tower, so that fans can differentiate cities at a glance and be able to tell the most famous cities apart.
