Pokemon Go Could Have A New Home In The Coming Weeks

According to several people “familiar with the discussions,” Niantic is in talks with Saudi Arabia-owned Scopely Inc. to acquire its video game division for $3.5 billion.

While nothing’s set in stone yet, it’s said a deal could be announced “in the coming weeks.” Any agreement would involve Pokemon Go and other mobile games.

Both Niantic and Scopely declined to comment on the alleged talks when asked about it.

According to Niantic, Pokemon Go, released in 2016, is the most successful augmented reality app of all time. While the company has hit gold with the game, the same can’t be said for its other gaming endeavors. Titles such as Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which was released in 2017, failed to capture its target, as the game was shut down on July 17, 2025. Another failed project was NBA All-World, an augmented reality game based on the NBA. Released in January 2023, the game didn’t even last an entire year, as the game shut down in June of the same year, laying off 230 employees.
